2006 Nissan Maxima will not start! Please help!!

I own an '06 Nissan Maxima. This morning I drove my car to a local park & ride station with no problem. This afternoon I got in the car and drove not even 1/2 mile back to my apartment complex and stopped at the leasing office for a ~5 min. to pick up a package. When I went back to the car, it would not start. The lights were flickering inside and the power doors, locks, and seats worked off and on, but sounded really weak. I was able to jump the car off this evening & drove it for a little while, but when I stopped at the apartment gate returning, the lights on the dash started going off and on, and finally when I put the car in park, it died. Now the lights just continue to flicker off and on inside the car. None of the other electrical works. And off and on you can hear rapid clicking sounds from both under the hood and inside the car. Please help! Thank you! (FYI: Car was recently serviced ~3.5 week ago with full service oil change, fuel injection service, and new air filters prior to this problem. Possible source of problem?) Whatever the case, sounds like something with the battery and electrical. Thanks for your input!

  1. dead batterey and what sounds like a bad alternator. Have them test it at autozone

  2. It sounds like it could be the alternator.  Usually when the lights won't even stay on and you hear a clicking noise and you lose power with everything electrical that's it.  And with alternators going dead, then it causes your battery to drain and just shut off on you.  If you could even get it to drive to a nearby repair shop or auto zone, maybe they could hook up that detector to your brain circuit and it would give you an answer as to why it's doing that.  I'm having similar problems right now with my boyfriend's Nissan Sentra ('96), only I think it's the transmission because we have power with the lights and all, but it does shut off while driving lately and once it gets to 2 RPMs it just sputters and dies out.  I've never owned a Nissan but I'm REALLY starting to hate them!!!! Have other people told you it could be the alternator?

  3. Check to make sure your battery cables are all attached and in good condition. Check the battery itself. The only other problem I would suspect is the ignition switch. If your ignition switch is faulty it would cause the lights and everything to flicker. Also I suspect it's the ignition switch because you were able to restart the car again. In most cases if it's the battery or the cables even the distributor is dead your car would not restart. What some fail to forget that the ignition switch is really a big deal. It's the first point of electrical powere that controls the car's electrical. If you have ever seen an ignition switch you'll be able to see a few big wires attached. Those wires lead to the battery, starter, distributor, fuel pump, and etc. But just do some tests and see where it leads you. But really look into the ignition switch. Best of luck!

  4. Your on the right path I would have the charging system tested and even test the battery. Sounds as if they had a chance to sell you new fan belts while it was in for it's 30 thousand mile service. I suspect the Alternator has packed it in fortunately your 3 year 36 thousand mile or extended warranty should rescue you.

  5. go to your local auto zone and test your battery if its not that u can go to a mechanic or the people that serviced your car before and ask them to check out the alternator . seems like its one of those problems , well hope you get it fixed , Good Luck!

  6. Alternator
