Question:

2007 G6 transmission problems?

I have a 2007 G6 and have had to have it looked at 3 times because once I hit 40-50 mph my transmission almost seems to get stuck. All the sudden it 'jumps' into the next gear, and when it does, it feels as though my car is falling apart. Not only that but my brakes sound HORRIBLE. Is anyone else having problems also?

  1. sounds like you are going into overdrive or feeling torque converter lockup. Can you describe what you mean by "seems to get stuck"?do you mean the shifter won't move, or does the car slow and stop?

Also what exactly do you mean by horrible when you say you have a brake noise. does it occur at all times or only while braking. Is it worse forward or reverse, have you noticed any difference wet or dry, or cold/hot. Is the noise high pitched or low?

  2. Lots of people are probably having lots of problems of all kinds with the Pontiac G6. It made Consumer Reports 2008 list of the Worst of the Worst.

And its predecessor, the Grand Am, has a couple of its own disctinctions:

    (1) The Pontiac Grand Am is on AutoOnInfo.net's list of the contenders for the worst model ever made, based on its multi-year reliability since 1987.

    (2) The Pontiac Grand Am is on AutoOnInfo.net's list of Automobiles with a Worst Engine (with a score of -.88 on a scale of -1.00 to +1.00).

And the Pontiac line has a couple of distinctions as well:

    (1) AutoOnInfo.net's detailed reliability and durability studies suggest that a typical 3-year-old Pontiac is as troublesome to own as a typical 27-year-old Honda and a typical 20-year-old Toyota.

    (2) GM's Pontiac line has a 2008 Used Car Reliability Measure of -.51 on a scale of -1.00 to +1.00. For reference, the Hyundai line has a 2008 Used Car Reliability Measure of +.20, the Honda line, +.83, and the Toyota line, +.84

  3. I havent had any problems with the transmission like you are, but I am having alot of problems with the brake noise, I have gotten the brakes checked but I have been told everything is fine. Thanks for the heads up im gonna pay attention to the engine sound.

  4. Continue taking it to the dealer, make them fix it right before your warranty is gone. Check the fluid.

  5. Hate to tell you this but Pontiac has GMs worst overall quality....has been that way for many years.....cheap parts, cheap assembly, low quality overall.....take this car to another Pontiac Dealer....sounds like the one you have been going to has a mechanic that likes to read comic books......if still no luck call Pontiac Div of GM for help.....ask to see the dealer service manager in person or the owner of the dealership if you continue to have trouble.....get some anwers.......driveway mechanic********
