2007 Nissan Frontier caught on fire???

Me, my husband, and my 9month old son were driving home two days ago when my husband noticed the bed was in flames, we all got out safe before the truck was literally incinerated. The fire department said it looks like a leaking fuel line. We are still waiting for the investigator to take a look at the truck, or should I say lump of ash. I did some research on the internet and found that the 2001 model had a recall due to a fuel valve which may result in a fire, also the 2005 and 2006 model had a recall stating if the truck was in a side impact accident that it may cause the fuel line to bend resulting in a fire later on. Doesn't this sound kinda of ironic since we have the 2007 model? and if the 2005 had the problem why did the 2006 model have the exact same one??? My husband was in an accident prior to this incident he was hit from behind nothing major, the girls insurance covered the repairs which were made right away. It is coming together to me like a puzzle or am I just crazy???

  1. Thank your stars you were OK. Just let the insurance handle it, and buy a new vehicle. What do you want from Nissan.....a million bucks? So walk away from Nissan and get something else. Good luck if you try to sue. They may give you something as a nuisance value, but I wouldn't. It's scary, but it's just a truck.

  2. This is just speculation and opinion but it sounds to me that when your husband was struck in the rear, it may have caused a leak in a fuel line. The leaking fuel may have landed on the exhaust system which ignited the fuel and started the fire.

  3. Please think about this very carefully. You are talking about recalls that do not have anything to do with your year model truck. 2005 trucks had a door latch recall in some crashes the door would if unlocked open during an accident. Pick up trucks hit from the rear can have all kinds damage some not seen or repaired properly. A carelessly flicked cigarette can fall upon leaves and things in the bed of the truck and 70 mile an hour wind whip up quite a fire. I work on these trucks and I can say I have never seen any with fuel leaking at our shop. And I have replaced quite a few fuel pumps and gas tank sending units. Even with a leak there is not a source of ignition. Call a Nissan Investigator too 1800 NISSAN1
