Will Miles Automotive be, next year, the first company to bring a mass-market car to American soil?

  1. I heard an interview with Miles this morning in which he (or the interviewer, I forget which) said the Javlon would be available in 2009.

Among the other cars listed in the article, the Chevy Volt is scheduled for late 2010, the Prius plug-in is probably still 5 years away, the Phoenix SUT will mostly just be available to fleets, and the Tesla Whitestar is scheduled for 2010.

So I think the early competition in the affordable EV market will be between the Miles Javlon and the ZAP-X and Alias, which are both likely to come out in 2009 as well.

The ZAP Alias and Miles Javlon will have similar characteristics and reasonable price (both around $30,000) and both scheduled to be available at around the same time, so it will be interesting to see how each does.

I think it's great that there's going to be competition in the near future in quality electric vehicles!
