Question:

2008 Hurricane Season?

I saw the 2008 hurricane forecast on Accuweather.com today. They say it'll be like the years of 1985, 1989, 1996 and 1999. Long Island,NY got a direct hit by a tropical cyclone 3 of those years. Every 70 years we get hit with a major hurricane. Does the hurricane season of 1938 compare to any of those seasons? Is there anywhere for free I can get air and water temperatures from the 1938 winter, spring and summer to compare it to this year to see if we will get the Great New England Hurricane of 2008? Wunderground doesn't go back that far. I have to write a paper for my research class about anything science related and I'll write about the odds of us this year getting hit by a major hurricane. Thanks.

  1. Find out everything you can and have your prof informed of the chances of having a major hurricane to hit NY this year. Good luck with your paper.

  2. You cannot just base on what may happen this year just on what water temps were like.  Don't for we had and while is coming to an end La Nina.  You gotta put a lot more details then just what the water temps were in the paper.  Go to the NHC on NOAA, they should gave you some climate statistics.  Also don't trust Accuweather, my opinion they the worst.
