Question:

2008 Jetta - How To Install HID conversion Kit?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows a way to install an HID conversion kit (the ones on ebay for under $100) on a 2008 Jetta? I have a brand new H7 HID conversion kit and don't see any way to do this without cutting all into the existing wires. I've never seen a car where there are no wires coming from the plastic piece that the bulb snaps into. Also, I am leasing this car, so I would need to be able to put it back exactly the way it is now without Volkswagen suspecting anything or voiding my warranty. That's my biggest concern. If anyone knows how to do this, can you please provide step by step instructions? I am a girl who knows nothing about this, thanks.

  1. Theresa, DONT DO IT.  98 percent of the stuff on ebay is c**p.  If you have that installed on your car I promise you it will void the headlight warranty and possibly your front wiring harness warranty.  If you really want HIDs only buy items made specifically for your Jetta, preferably Hella brand.  they make the original lighting items for VW.  If you want them to work properly then you also have to progam the cars ECU to run the new lights in most cases.

  2. Well, you need to take the car to someone who does know something about this. All they need to do is make a little harness adapter. Stereo installation places, or places that install DVD players, ipd adapters and such will be able to do this. Hopefully, you bought a kit that does not require modification of the headlamp housing. Some do, some don't. Make sure you tell the installer that you do not want the car modified in any way, and you want the installation reversible to a totally stock car. Make sure the work order you sign says that, or don't sign it no matter what the rap they give you indicates. Enjoy the lights.
