2008 YZ250F vs. 2006 KDX200?

My buddy just got a KDX200 two-stroke. We were talkin about our bikes and doing the usual mine is better than yours exchange. He thinks his bike can beat mine because his is a 2 stroke and mine's a 4. I really don't think it's possible but what do you think?

Also for fast take offs, do you start in 2nd gear and hold the throttle open?

  1. hate to be the bearer of bad news, but with equal riders, the hole shot would go hands down to the KDX200... I have personally owned 9 KDXs (175, 200, 220, 250)  and several 250Fs among a bunch of other bikes.  I have a friend that still rides enduro & harescrambles on a KDX 200, and I would put him up against anyone short of a pro rider for hot shotting on a MX track even against 450Fs depending on the length of the first straight...

the KDX is not really toned down, just tuned for a slightly different series of racing and a great little bike.

the real question will come down to rider's ability if you are only concerned with a drag race to the first corner... but after the first corner, the 250F should have a huge advantage on a MX track ... but the rider will have alot to do there also...

  2. I didn't even know they still made the KDX 200. My dad had an old air cooled one that was a rocket. Depends on if they are both stock I guess. They are just too different to tell. I would have to go with the 250 just because I have a 07 RMZ250 and I like the 250's power. As far as fast takeoffs, its all your preference and what kind of a start it is, I like 2nd gear, but a lot of people get holeshot devices that hold down the front end so you don't wheelie off the gate.

  3. the yzf will own the kdx mostly because the kdx is a trail bike. not 2 or 4 stroke. you can start in 2nd gear just make sure you watch your rpms so you don't stall.

  4. The KDX 200 is not a motocross bike and doesn't create the same power per cc that a motocross bike would. The KDX is a very toned down 2 stroke and the YZ250F would eat it alive. Don't get me wrong, the KDX is a great bike for what it is intended to do, but is no power house. Yes, more experienced riders with a good clutch hand start in 2nd gear. It may take a little practice to get the clutch work perfected. You have one awesome bike by the way!!

  5. no comparison, the yzf will kill that KDX!!!!!!

  6. i agree with pmk.  that kdx is no slouch!

  7. No sir yzf will spank the kdx right off the line!
