  1. The Car is fast enough I guess. It has 156 HP. The transmission is just a standard automatic but has the sport shift feature. Chrysler calls it the autostick and VW calls it tiptronic, Mazda calls it sport shift. It just lets you control the shift points with no clutch. The Mazda 3 with the 2.3 has a lot of pep, and is adequate in acceleration. It's not a sports car, so its not that fast.

  2. Well I have a 2007 Mazda 3 4door totally loaded and its an auto and I love it. I had a 2006 honda civic 2 door before and this mazda runs circles around it. With that said car and driver magazine said it runs a 16 second standing quarter mile. I haven't heard of any problem with them from anyone. The mpg is great, like 26 to 28, and it runs great. I have the same tranny that you are talking about and you can switch between auto and shifting the gears yourself. Its nice because there is no clutch to mess with. You just change gears with the bump of the gear shift and then you can change back to auto whenever you want. The only thing I don't like about the car is the interior. Don't go with the black leather, I got it and it will burn you up. Other than that I LOVE the car. I really hope this helps you pick the car you want.

  3. nope

  4. First you gotta ask yourself which model are you comparing the acceleration to. Mazda 3 has a heavy chassis and undercarriage so don't expect it to fly off the blocks.

As for the AT-i, its kind of a semi manual shifter whereby you do not have any clutch to step on. Just switch to the + and - found on the gearbox and you are ready to go. Its quite a good feature whereby when you need to drop a gear, shift to - and the car shifts down immediately. Enjoy your Mazda 3 should you get one!

  5. Dude get the MazdaSpeed 3. Yes MazdaSpeed 3. Thats the fastest in the 3 series lineup. Its the same 2.3 engine but its turbocharged and connected to a 6 speed manual. Get that one and you won't look back.

  6. The manual transmission version is fast, but the automatic version is not.

The performance numbers for cars that you find on the internet and tv shows are for manual versions of car. Automatic is almost a second slower to 60mph.

0-60mph in 7.4 seconds for the Manual transmission. This is fast. Same 0-60 time as the Scion tC. Faster than a Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Kia Spectra, Mitsubishi Lancer, Chevy Cobalt, and all other competitors.

0-60mph in 8.3 seconds for the automatic transmission.

The sport AT is where you can either leave it in D(drive) or you can switch to M mode where you can choose when to shift gears by moving the shifter up(+) to shift up and down(-) to shift down. This makes the autmatic transmission more fun, but it is not faster.

  7. Perhaps I can give you a technical explanation that may shed some light on your question. I would not say that the Mazda3 4 door sedan is fast.  It is quick.  Fast is a 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds, Lotus Exige.  A properly equipped Mazda3 is a counter puncher from the standpoint of speed. Another words its strong suit is not a blazing start, but once it is rolling it can catch up and in some cases pass.  The reason being, is that the Mazda3 has a low compression 4 cylinder engine designed for improved gas mileage.  On the other hand, the Mazdaspeed3 utilizes the exact same engine with a higher compression force fed direct fuel injection and a turbocharger to boot. As a result, the Mazdaspeed's power-train has reinforced internal parts to sustain the stress of torque and speed running through the front wheels.

The Mazda3 can go fast, but it is engineered as an economy car first, a fast car second.
