I've heard all about the TV transition in February 2009, but why are they doing this. What is the purpose?

  1. All modern technology 'evolves', and changes inevitably.

Eight years ago a DVD player was too expensive to buy.

    Think of the 1st VCR's..

    The Sony Walkman..

This was just an inevitability... We'll all be moving to High-Def and Digital.  Times change.

  2. It is to upgrade all cable tv's to go digital which means all cable will have a hd type picture more tv stations

  3. Much of the TV we are used to seeing, including radio, cell phones, etc. are sent through the airwaves. TV, for the longest time, was sent through an analog signal. Well, this meant the audio and video signals were separate and sent separately.

Digital signals are, simply put, more condensed than analog signals. Basically, the FCC is converting all the TVs to receive digital signals to clear up the airwaves. This will allow more room for other technologies, such as cell phones, the radios ambulences communicate with, etc. Digital signals are also more efficient because they send, well, higher up. They have a different frequency than analog signals, so that's how they are able to send better picture qualities.

In a sense, it's just another notch in the ever-changing communication belt.

Transitioning is easier than most think. If you have a TV bought in the past few years, chances are, it will already have a receiver in it. A TV doesn't have to be HiDef to receive the signals, it just just has to have a digital receiver. Those getting their TV through a cable or satellite receiver should be OK, because that box will receive the digital signal, (as it probably is already). TVs that are older, and don't have the receiver will just need a receiver or converter box, and those don't cost more than $50 for a basic one.

  4. so we can buy new Tv's it a conspiracy I tell you the rich just keep getting richer
