2009 World Champion, German Nicolas Limbach leads the Sabre Ranking List: Fencing News
The 2009 World Champion of Fencing, Nicolas Limbach, who is consecutively leading the Sabre World Rankings for three years, retained his top position with 228 points as per the ranking updated by Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE). The 2010-11 rankings
were second-time updated by FIE after the competitions of April and May.
Limbach, is one of the top fencers of Germany, who won gold medal in 2009 Antalya World Fencing Championships and silver medallist at 2010 Paris World Championships of Fencing. In 2009, he topped the World Ranking with 298 points. In 2010, he led the Sabre
list with 290 points. This year, Limbach is also working hard to retain his position. FIE announced the 2010-11 rankings on April 3. Limbach was leading the list with 234 points. During the month of April, he participated in Acropolis Grand Prix Cup. He faced
Aron Szilagyi in the final, who defeated Limbach with 15-9 points. Limbach was crowned with silver medal and was ranked second in the competition.
His marvellous performance in the competition caused him to lead the 2010-11 rankings. The Russian, Alexey Yakimenko also kept retaining his second spot the list. Yakimenko is 2010 European Champion and number one ranked in those championships. During 2010-11,
Yakimenko is growing his performance. He participated in eight main events including 2010 World Championships, Grand Prix’ and World Cups during 2010-11 season. Yakimenko remained in the list of Top 10 fencers during each main event. On May 13, Yakimenko participated
in Sabre World Cup Madrid, where he won the gold medal and was ranked first. Luckily, it caused Yakimenko not only to retain second place, but also provided a chance to cross Limbach as they are having a difference of only 12 points in their positions.
