2010-11 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Haris Sohail hits a double hundred in dead rubber
The spot-fixing controversy has badly hit http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket as it has lost the services of its 3 main players. National Bank of Pakistan is equally affected as the suspended trio of Salman Butt, Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Asif plays for NBP also but because
of their suspension, NBP is definitely missing them. Absence of the main players is quite visible from the points table of the division of the Quaid e Azam Trophy 2010-11 as NBP is struggling at number 6. NBP and ZTBL met in the 8th round of the
Trophy and the match ended without a result. It turned out to be a dull draw, however, ZTBL did take the 1st innings lead which gave them 3 important points.
At the Jinnah Stadium http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842, Rao Iftikhar Anjum won the toss for ZTBL and invited NBP to bat first. NBP did not disappoint and scored 370 runs in the 1st innings because of splendid hundreds by Umar Amin and Naumanullah. Umar Amin scored 110
runs of 190 balls with the help of 10 boundaries. He proved a point that he has got immense talent and deserved more opportunity at the international level. On the other hand, Naumanullah who played a solitary ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in 2007-08 scored 107 runs
of 195 balls including 16 fours.
Left arm fast bowler Muhammad Khalil, who has been performing quite magnificently this season, picked up another 5-wicket haul for ZTBL. Lanky http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rehan-Riaz-c84633 took 3 wickets for 91 runs. Muhammad Khalil has been forgotten by the selectors ever since Muhammad
Amir has arrived on the scene but in Amir’s absence, Khalil should be given another chance to showcase his abilities with the ball.
In reply, ZTBL came up with an even better batting performance as it piled up 530 runs in its 1st innings and took a lead of 160 runs in the 1st innings. The star of the show for ZTBL was the left handed middle-order batsman Haris Sohail,
who scored an unbeaten double-hundred. He scored 211 runs of 417 balls and held the innings together for ZTBL. His marvellous knock included 19 fours. Inam ul Haq and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Azam-c1122 also scored important half-centuries for ZTBL. Muhammad Khalil showed his skills
with the bat as well with an impressive innings of 44 which included 5 fours and a six.
Right arm pacer, Uzair ul Haq took 6 wickets for NBP and was the stand-out bowler. Part-timers, Umar Amin and Qaiser Abbas took 2 wickets each to help their team’s cause. One test wonder, Muhammad Talha went wicket-less after a marathon spell of 38 overs
which conceded NBP 158 runs.
In the 2nd innings of NBP, they just had to face out 3 overs in the dead rubber, which they did without any hiccups.
Although, both the teams impressed with their batting displays but it was quite disappointing to see that ZTBL did not push for the victory by declaring the 1st innings. However, Haris Sohail is a good prospect for Pakistan cricket in future as
Pakistan needs depth in the middle-order batting.
