2010/2011 season summary – Barcelona (Part 6)
Barcelona continued their Spanish La Liga journey after qualifying for the final of the UEFA Champions league scheduled to take place at Wembley, London – the heart and home of football in Europe.
As continued, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 had the opportunity to clinch their third consecutive Spanish La Liga title as they had to play Levante. The Spanish Champions only needed a draw to get hold of the title and Josep Guardiola decided to play the B team in order to
get the win and in order to rest his first team players.
The match between Barcelona and Levante ended in a 1-1 draw. The Spanish Champions were awarded with the Spanish La Liga crown even though a few first team players appeared during the game.
With two matches remaining, Barcelona had a six point lead over Real Madrid. This meant that the league title could be decided over the head-to-head record between the two teams. Barcelona were the better side as they won one of their fixtures against Real
Madrid with a five goal margin.
Moreover, Barcelona lost only two games throughout their campaign while Real Madrid were far behind the Catalans.
It was for the first time in the history of Barcelona that a manager took three titles in his first three seasons at the club.
Soon, Barcelona played their last fixture in the Spanish La Liga and won 1-3 against Malaga while being away from home. This match also featured back-up players while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ibrahim-Afellay-c16547 and Marc Bartra scored the three goals for the Spanish Champions.
This win also helped Barcelona make an away record as they managed to win 14 away league games during the season and lost only one against Real Sociedad.
The much awaited final between Barcelona and Manchester United took place on 28th May 2011. The Spanish Champions dominated most of the game even though Manchester United took a bright start.
The first real opportunity of the game fell in for Manchester United as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Pique was about to roll the ball into his own net. However, Victor Valdes saved the day for the Catalans and then Barcelona dominated.

Barcelona then came back during the second half and totally dominated the game. Just when the Manchester United defence line thought he will dribble past them, he decided to shoot
from 25 yards out and got the ball past Edwin Van der Saar – who was playing his last game for Manchester United.
Barcelona were leading the game 2-1 and soon a touch of brilliance from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629 helped Barcelona take the lead to 3-1. The ball was curled in from long distance and Barcelona won.
Eric Abidal received the UEFA Champions League trophy as he managed to play the whole game after recovering from a tumour.
Barcelona won the UEFA Champions League and the Spanish La Liga. This ended their run for the 2010/2011 season with a European double. Moreover, they also won the Spanish Super Cup before the start of the season.
