2010/2011 season summary – Chelsea (Part 1)
The Premier League side Chelsea did not have an exceptional season and even though they were the ones defending the Premier League title, they only managed to finish second behind Manchester United.
Chelsea were the favourites to win the Premier League title twice in a row. However, with a few players leaving the club, the depth of the squad was affected and the Blues had to pay for it later on as a few injuries and aging players cost them the first spot in the points table.
In the summer transfer window of 2010, Chelsea decided to release http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Ballack-c25270 and Juliano Beletti. This was on June 9th that the London club officially announced that all these players are going to leave the club as their contracts have expired.
Soon, the fixtures of the Premier League were announced and it was found that Chelsea are going to play their first Premier League fixture against West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge.
On 2nd July 2010, the Blues made their first summer signing. The Israeli captain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 on a deal worth 5.5 million Pounds. Benayoun penned a contract which would keep him at the club for three years.
Five days later, Chelsea made another signing from Sigma Olomouc. The Blues bought the 17 year old defender Tomas Kalas; however, he joined Sigma Olomouc again but on a loan.
Chelsea then released the Portuguese midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 man joined the Brazilian club Fluminese. Deco joining Fluminese meant that he was going to partner Juliano Beletti at the Brazilian club – who also left in the same summer transfer window but as a free agent.
Chelsea competed in their first game on 8th August 2010. The match was the 2010 FA Community Shield and they were to play Manchester United. The match was won by the Red Devils even though Chelsea were favourites to win. On 9th August 2010, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scott-Sinclair-c32675 joined Swansea City for 500,000 Pounds. However, the fee could rise to 1 million Pounds.
Chelsea soon lost another player as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-Carvalho-c30973 decided to join the Spanish Giants Real Madrid as his former boss Jose Mourinho became in charge there. The Los Blancos and Chelsea came to common terms and a deal worth 6.7 million Pounds was agreed between the two sides.
