2010/2011 season summary – Chelsea (Part 5)
On the last day of the January transfer window, Chelsea shocked the whole world as they signed two outstanding players.
 
First, Chelsea signed the Liverpool star striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nemanja-Matic-c27531
moving to Benfica over the summer.
On 6th February 2011, Chelsea lost 1-0 to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678 scoring the only goal of the game. With this defeat, Chelsea’s chances of winning the English Premier League looked quite bleak.
On 19th February 2011, Chelsea faced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leighton-Baines-c21987 drew the game level and
the match went on to penalties. Chelsea lost the game 4-3 on penalties and this ended Chelsea’s dreams of winning the FA Cup three times in a row.
On 1st March 2011, Chelsea managed to win against Manchester United, giving themselves some hope to win the Premier League. Wayne Rooney opened the scoring but the newly signed Benfica centre back, David Luiz scored to equalize for the Blues.
Later, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 took a penalty kick to give Chelsea a 2-1 win over the table toppers.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 faced FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League knock out stages. Even though they drew the second game 0-0 at the Stamford Bridge, they still qualified for the quarter finals on a 0-2 aggregate.
Chelsea finally started to show a bit of form in March as they defeated Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. The win took them to the third place in the Premier League points table, nine points behind the table toppers Manchester United with a match in hand.
The first goal was scored by the Brazilian centre back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ramires-c30523 who also scored his second
goal of the English Premier League.
In April, Chelsea’s run in the UEFA Champions League came to an end after they lost the quarter final to Manchester United. The first leg took place at the Stamford Bridge with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 scoring the only goal of the game to give Manchester United an away
goal advantage.
The second leg took place at Old Trafford and Manchester United gave Chelsea no chance of making a comeback. The first goal was scored by Javier Hernandez during the first half. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 came off the bench and scored with only 15 minutes left in the
final whistle. Even though Chelsea had a good patch of possession with Drogba coming on, Ji Sung Park scored for Manchester United to give his side a 2-1 lead over Chelsea.
