2010 ATP China Open, David Ferrer reaches the quarters
Eight seeded David Ferrer from Spain registered his 50th Victory of the year, after getting the better of Yen Hsun Lu in three sets at the 2010 ATP China Open Men’s Competition on Thursday. The final match score was 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. The clash concluded
in a time period of two hours in Beijing.
The twenty-eight year old Ferrer, who turned professional back in 2000, had his serve broken on three occasions in his today’s clash against Yen Hsun Li. David is a clay court expert, but he has had success on hard surfaces as well, particularly his back
to back semi final runs at the NASDAQ-100 Open from 2005 to 2006 along with his semi final showdown at the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open back in 2007.
The Valencia resident was also a part of his country’s Davis cup team that triumphed in the finals back in 2008 as well as last year. Moreover, he was also a finalist at the Tennis Masters Cup back in 2007. Ferrer first achieved the top ten rankings back
in 2006. The Spaniard is currently ranked number ten in the World by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
Last week in Kuala Lumpur, the fifth seeded Ferrer ousted Bernard Tomic in two sets and Yuki Bhambri later in straight sets for a quarterfinal berth at the Malaysian Open. He then got past Tomas Berdych, buut was sent packing in the final four by Andrey
Golubev in two sets. The final match score was 7-5, 7-6(4).
The right hander, who triumphed in a career high sixty-one clashes back in 2007, won the opening set quite comfortably in his today’s match. However, in the following set, the Spaniard was given a tough time by Yen who won it in the end.
Ferrer, came back well in the decisive set to win the clash in Beijing. Lu, earlier this season registered his name as the first Asian contender to make his way into the quarter final round at Wimbledon since Shuzo Matsuoka back in 1995.
Ferrer, as a result of this victory will be attempting to reach his tenth ATP World Tour final four in 2010 on Friday. He currently enjoys a match record of 50-18 in the season.
