2010 ATP China Open: Thursday’s Preview
The four remaining round two clashes on Thursday at the 2010 ATP China Open will highlight the second seed, Andy Murray from Scotland; world number five, Robin Soderling as well as the eighth, David Ferrer from Spain. All three
fight for one of the remaining six position in the year ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.
In Thursday's opening match on Lotus Court, Nicolas Almagro from Spain will meet Soderling on the seventh occasion in their career. They are leveled at 3-3 as Nicolas triumphed in their previous two clashes on clay. The twenty
five year old Nicolas is attempting to make his way into his eighth ATP World Tour quarter or better in 2010. He currently enjoys a match record of 42-21 on the season. The Spaniard made his debut at the China Open on Tuesday with a two setter victory over
Lukasz Kubot, a qualifier from Poland.
The twenty five year old Soderling, on the other hand enjoys a match record of 44-16 on the season. He is looking to make his way into his 12th quarter or better in 2010. Earlier in Kuala Lumpur, the Swede got the better of Andrey
Golubev in the quarter final clash at the 2010 Malaysian Open. He jumped into the top ten rankings back in 2009 and has not fallen out since then.
Second up in Beijing, will be the top ranked Brit, Andy Murray, who will meet Albert Montanes from Spain. The twenty three year old Murray made his championship debut on Tuesday with a straight set win over Paul Henri Mathieu,
a qualifier from France. The Scott currently enjoys a match record of 35-13 on the year. In August, he had won his first ATP World Tour crown of 2010 at the Rogers Cup, where he dispatched off David Nalbandian, Rafael Nadal as well as Roger Federer in straight
sets. Moreover, Murray has also triumphed in all of his previous three matches versus Albert and stands at a career mark of 3-0 against the Spaniard.
Albert, on the other hand is attempting to make his way into his eighth ATP World Tour quarter. He made his China Open on Tuesday where he toppled Andrey Golubev in two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 3-0. He currently enjoys
a match record of 34-19 on the season.
On the Moon Court, David Ferrer will play Yen Hsun Lu of China. Ferrer currently enjoys a match record of 49-18. He triumphed in his opening clash at the China Open with a two setter win over Denis Istomin.
Lu on the other hand, is hoping to reach his third quarter in 2010 after advancing to that round earlier in February at Johannesburg. He enjoys a match record of 13-16 and is ranked number forty in the world. Although, he has never
made his way into the final of a single event, however he has successfully reached three title battles in doubles, capturing one and ending as runner up on two occasions so far in his career.
The final singles clash on Thursday will feature Ivan Ljubicic from Croatia and Alexandr Dolgopolov from Ukraine. The thirty one year old Ivan is attempting to reach his fourth ATP World Tour quarter and enjoys a match record of
18-14. Dolgopolov, on the other hand is the youngest contender in the ATP top 100 list and enjoys a match record of 16-18.
