2010 ATP World Tour Finals: Rafael Nadal and Kubot/Marach secure semi-final spot
Top seed Rafael Nadal triumphed in his concluding round-robin clash of the 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals after posting a two-setter victory over Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic on Friday. The final match score was 7-6 (3)
6-1.
World number one Rafael had to battle hard to clinch the opening set in a tiebreaker; however, once he got into the groove, the right-hander comfortably clinched a two-setter win in the end.
The 24-year-old blasted two aces, won 75% points on his opening serve and committed thirteen unforced errors to get past his Czech foe on Friday. By virtue of this victory, Rafa tops the Group B as he triumphed in all his round-robin
clashes this week at the elite eight- man field in London.
In the doubles action, the fifth seed pair of Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach also won their final round-robin match versus the second seed duo of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in three sets on Friday. The final score line was
6-0 1-6 10-6.
As a result of this victory, Lukasz and Marach have also made their way into the semi-final round of the ATP World Tour Finals in London. They wrapped up the clash in one hour and four minutes. The duo blasted two aces and won
70% points on his first serve.
Seeded number five to win the title in London, Kubot and Marach did well to pick up the opening set in only twenty-three minutes. They fired two aces and secured 100% points on their opening serve to seal the first set convincingly
in the end.
The second seed tandem of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic, however, rallied back strongly by taking the next set with a score line of 6-1. They broke during the second and sixth game to level the scores in twenty-seven minutes.
In a super tiebreaker, Lukasz and Marach secured breaks early in the decisive set and maintained the lead until the end to clinch win.
