2010 Asian Games: China's Shuai Peng makes it through to championship final

Seeded no. 4 at the tournament, China's Shuai Peng annihilated Japan's Kimiko Date Krumm in the semifinals of the 2010 Asian Games to make a place for herself in the final.

Peng initiated the match with a 7-6 tiebreak win. However, Krumm turned the tables on her competitor as she took the second set 6-3. The deciding third set nevertheless went in favor of the Chinese as she took it 6-2 to advance to the finals.

"I felt tired in the second set but the spectators cheered for me, so I didn't give up," said Peng. In addition, she stated "We kept running all the time. We were exhausted. My arms seemed to fall apart but I never gave up during the match."

Earlier, Date Krumm eliminated Korea's Jin A. Lee defeating the no. 8 seed 7-6 in the first set and 7-5 in the set to follow. Meanwhile, Peng got through with Taipei's Kai Chen Chang in the quarterfinal match played between the two. Chang was defeated 6-2 and
7-6 marking a straight set win for Shuai.

Prior to facing the Chinese professional, Chang got rid of Uzbekistan's Sabina Sharipova. Chen lost the first set 7-5. However, she rose in terms of performance as she went on to take the second set 6-4 and the deciding third set 6-1.

Furthermore, Shuai will be opposed by either Uzbekistan's Akgul Amanmuradova or India's Sania Mirza in the championship final. Seeded no. 3, Akgul made it through to the semifinals upon defeating Japan's Ayumi Morita. Amanmuradova got off to a good start taking
the first set 6-2. However, in a reverse of fortune the professional lost the second set 2-6. The decider nevertheless went in favor of Akgul as she took it 6-2.

Morita eliminated Vietnam's Phuong Dai Trang Huynh taking the first set 6-1 and the second set 6-2 to face Akgul in the following round. Sania Mirza battled it out against Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn taking the game based upon a 6-2, 6-3 straight set win.
 

Tanasugarn made it through after beating Korea's So Ra Lee. Lee lost 0-6 and 1-6 to be sent home. Meanwhile, Sania got through with China's Shuai Zhang. Mirza took the first set 6-2 and the second set 6-2 to advance to the next round.
