2010 Asian Games: Taipei's Yung Jan Chan and Chia Jung Chuang make it through to Doubles Final
Seeded No. 1 at the 2010 Asian Games, Taipei's Yung Jan Chan and compatriot Chia Jung Chuang battled it out against the Korean pair of So Jung Kim and Jin A. Lee to make a place for themselves in the Championship Final.
Chan and Chuang got off to a good start taking the first set 6-1. However, Kim and Lee bounced back to take the second set 6-3. The decider nevertheless went in favor of Jan and Chia as they took it to 10-3 based on their tiebreak win.
Earlier, Lee and Kim defeated Japan's Kimiko Date Krumm and partner Ayumi Morita. The Japanese duo started off the match with a 6-3 win. That however seemed to have been all they had to offer as So Jung and Jin took the second set 7-6 and advanced to the following
round upon taking the third set tiebreak.
Meanwhile, Jan Chan and Jung Chuang eliminated the No. 5 seeds, China's Shengnan Sun and companion Shuai Zhang. The Chinese pair was beaten 6-1, 6-7 and 10-6. Prior to facing the team from Taipei, Zhang and Sun defeated India's Nirupama Sanjeev and Tara Iyer,
6-4 and 7-5.
In the initial rounds, Chia and Yung eliminated Uzbekistan's Nigina Abduraimova and partner Sabina Sharipova. The Uzbeks' reign ended as they were defeated 6-1 in the first set and 6-3 in the concluding set.
The No. 1 seeds will be facing fellow country women Kai Chen Chang and Suwei Hsieh Yan in the Championship Final. Chang and Hsieh got through defeating Indonesia's Jessy Priskila Rompies and Nany Rahayu Suharyadi Basuki, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals.
With an all Taiwanese showdown set for the Finals, the Championship match can swing either way, a win-win for Taiwan regardless of the result.
