2010 BNP Paribas Masters: Preview of Monday’s evening session
The professional tennis player from France, Michael Llorda and Potito Starace of Italy will take the court for the third match of the day at 2010 BNP Paribas Masters Men’s singles competition on Monday. It will be their first time encounter on the ATP tour.
Michael is a two-time ATP World Tour winner in 2010 whereas Starace made way into his third career singles title battle in Umag earlier this summer.
The 29-year-old Starace is playing in Bercy on the second occasion in his career. In his previous appearance here back in 2007, the professional tennis ace from Italy couldn’t even win his opening round clash as he was toppled by the French player Gilles
Simon in three sets.
The top Italian contender on the ATP tour comes in with a win loss mark of 26-24 on the year. He posted his best result of the season by reaching the final in Umag. His other notable performances in 2010 include two semi final appearances in Casablanca and
Nice and four quarter final showings in Sydney, Hamburg, Bucharest and Valencia.
He also played well in Challengers this year, compiling a mark of 20-8 with final show downs in Lugano, Turin and Genova.
The French tennis star Gilles, on the other hand, owns a lifetime record of 1-5 in Bercy and won his only match back in 2006 when he surpassed Fernando Verdasco before losing to Haas. He couldn’t even win his first round clash back in 2009 as he was toppled
by Benjamin Becker in three sets.
The left hander has so far won a total of two titles this year in Marseille and Eastbourne, defeating Benneteau and Garcia-Lopez respectively in the finals. He enters with a match record of 25-20 on the season and is the fourth highest ranked player from
France on the ATP World Tour who achieved his career high ranking of world number 28 back in September. He is currently ranked number 34 in the world.
In the fourth match of the day, Richard Gasquet will take on Nicolas Mahut in an all French encounter.
Mahut, a wild card entrant, has a career mark of 2-5 in Bercy. The 28 year old player from France previously advanced into the second round here back in 2003 and 2007. Mahut owns a win loss mark of 3-6 on the tour and is playing in Bercy on the first occasion since
2007. The right hander made his debut back in 2003 and was defeated by Gaston Gaudio in the opening round in straight sets. He is currently ranked number 132 in the world.
Richard, 24, is coming off his eighth ATP World Tour quarter-final showing in Basel last week where the Frenchman was ousted by Viktor Troicki. He stands at a match record of 37-21 on the season.
His other significant appearances in 2010 include two title battle appearances in Sydney and Gstaad, a semi final run in Metz and four quarter final showings in Brisbane, Casablanca, Belgrade and Basel. Richard is one of the four French contenders on the
ATP World Tour this season along with Gilles Simon, Michael Llorda and Gael Monfils to capture at least a single ATP World Tour crown this season.
In the concluding clash of the day, Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland will meet Josselin Ouanna, a qualifier from France, in their first ever face to face encounter on the tour. The French player is 4-4 on the ATP World Tour whereas Stanislas is 34-18, highlighted
by his second career ATP World Tour trophy and first major final eight showing at the United States Open in New York.
