2010 BNP Paribas Masters: Quarter-finalists Recap - Men's Doubles
It comes as no surprise that the Bryan brothers namely Bob and Mike Bryan zipped through to the quarterfinals of the 2010 BNP Paribas Masters. Seeded no. 1 at the tournament, Bob and Mike got through with the Croatian pair of Marin
Cilic and Ivan Ljubicic defeating them 7-6 in the first set and 7-5 in the set to follow. Earlier, Cilic and Ljubicic eliminated Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin and Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev defeating them 3-6, 7-6 and 12-10 to make it through to the second round.
Furthermore, the Bryan brothers will face either South Africa's Wesley Moodie and Belgium's d**k Norman or the Polish team consisting of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in the quarterfinals.
Seeded no. 3 at the tournament, India's Leander Paes and Czech Republic's Lukas Dlouhy defeated America's John Isner and Sam Querrey to make a place for themselves in the quarters. Isner and Querrey initiated the match with a 7-6
win, but unfortunately lost the remaining set 7-5 and the tiebreaker 10-6 to be sent home.
John and Sam battled it out against Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci and Marcelo Melo in the first round of the tournament. Bellucci and Marcelo were beaten 7-6, 4-6 and 10-0. Additionally, Paes and Dlouhy will be opposed either by Mark
Knowles from the Bahamas and Andy Ram from Israel or by the Asian duality of India's Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan's Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi in the quarterfinals of their draw.
The no. 8 seeds, Slovakia's Michal Mertinak and Czech Republic's Frantisek Cermak received a walk over as Russia's Mikhail Youzhny (paired up with Uzbekistan's Sergiy Stakhovsky) pulled out due to a back injury. The two will be
facing Poland's Lukas Kubot and Austria's Oliver Marach in the quarterfinals.
Kubot and Marach made it through upon defeating Spain's Nicolas Almagro and David Marrero in the previous round. Almagro and Marrero were beaten 6-0 and 6-3 marking a straight set win for Oliver and Lukas.
Additionally, France's Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra will battle it out against the defending champions, Canada's Daniel Nestor and Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic in the second round for a place in the quarterfinals. India's Mahesh
Bhupathi and Belarus' Max Mirnyi will be opposed by Israel's Jonathan Erlich and Germany's Michael Kohlmann in the second round of their draw.
