2010 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy: Preview of Friday's evening session
The Austrian tennis ace, Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany will play the third match of the day at 2010 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy men’s singles competition in Vienna.
World number twelve Melzer is the top Austrian player on South African Airways 2010 ATP list. The defending champion has played in the quarters or better on twelve occasions so far in 2010. He made his way into his only final this season at Hamburg back
in July but the left hander was defeated there by Golubev.
The Vienna born, who made his debut on the ATP World tour back in 1999, enters with a match record of 47-24 on the year. He also reached the semi finals in Zagreb, Dubai, French Open, quarter final in Auckland, ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Madrid, Rotterdam,
Stuttgart, Umag, Bangkok and ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Shanghai this season.
The 29 year old enjoys a lifetime record of 17-9 in Vienna. In his last competition at Shanghai Rolex Masters, Melzer posted the biggest victory of his career by surpassing the world number one and top seed, Rafael Nadal in the third round before losing
to Juan Monaco.
Kohlschreiber, who is the top German player on the tour, is playing in his eighth quarter final or better in 2010. The professional tennis player is currently ranked number 35 on the ATP list. He comes in with a win loss record of 37-22 on the year.
Philipp, who enjoys a career mark of 7-2 in Vienna, made his way into the quarters after thrashing out Tobias Kamke on Thursday. His best result so far this season was a semi final appearance in Auckland back in January where the German was toppled by Marin
Cilic in straight sets.
In the concluding match of the day, the twenty five year old Marcos Baghdatis will meet Michael Berrer of Germany during his fourth quarter final round in 2010.
World number 20 Marcos comes in with a match record of 43-26 on the season. He is coming off his third ATP World Tour title battle showing of the year in Moscow last week where he was dispatched off by Viktor Troicki in a three setter clash.
The professional tennis player from Cyprus, who made his debut on the ATP World Tour back in 2003, is playing in Vienna on the third occasion in his career and stands at 2-2 lifetime. In his last appearance back in 2007, the Cypriot couldn’t even win his
opening round battle as he was defeated then by Andreas Seppi in straight sets. His best result this year came at Sydney where he won his fourth career ATP World Tour crown on the tour.
The 30 year old Berrer, on the other hand, enters with a win loss mark of 19-25 on the season and is currently ranked number 53 in the South African Airways 2010 ATP list. The left hander is playing in his fourth ATP World Tour final eight of the year. Berrer
is making his third appearance in Vienna and stands at 3-2 career mark.
The German, who made his debut on the ATP World tour back in 1999, upset the Wimbledon runners up; Tomas Berdych three weeks ago at the China Open Men’s singles competition in Beijing. He achieved his career high ranking of world number 42 back in May this
year.
