2010 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy; Preview of the evening session on Thursday
The 23-year-old Austrian, Haider-Maurer and Andreas Seppi who is the top player from Italy will come on the centre court for the third match of the day at the 2010 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy in Vienna.
Haider made his way into the second round of the tournament after getting the better of former top ranked Thomas Muster in his opening match. He is hoping to join his compatriot player Jurgen Melzer in the final eight.
The Austrian tennis ace comes in Vienna as a lucky loser in the competition and is attempting to reach his first career ATP World Tour quarter-final in 2010. He is playing at the Bank Austria Tennis Trophy on the third occasion in his career and stands at
1-2 lifetime in Vienna.
The right hander who is currently ranked number 157 in the South African ATP World Tour list enters with a match record of 2-3 on the season. He previously qualified in Gstaad back in July and couldn’t go beyond the second round as he was surpassed by Albert
Montanes in straight sets.
At the year’s final major, the United States Open in New York, Haider was defeated at the hands of World number five Robin Soderling in a five-setter epic.
World number 51 Seppi on the other hand comes in with a win loss mark of 24-26 on the year. He is currently the top Italian on the tour and his best result of the season came in three clay court competitions as he reached the quarters in Bastad and back-to-back
final four in Hamburg and Umag.
The Italian enjoys a lifetime mark of 4-5 in Vienna. He is one of the four Italians in the top hundred in the ATP list. Seppi, who reached his career high ranking of world number 27 back in 2008, is trying to make his way into his fourth quarter-final of
the season and first on the hard surface.
In the evening session, Bjorn Phau of Germany and Marcos Baghdatis will square off in their first ever meeting on the ATP World Tour.
The 31-year-old Phau is currently ranked number 89 in the South African Airways 2010 ATP list. He enters with a match record of 9-12 on the season. The professional tennis player from Germany did well to triumph in his opening round match against his compatriot
fellow Florian Mayer in two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-4. The right hander recorded his best result of the season back in September by reaching the quarter final round in Bucharest where he was eventually overpowered by the ultimate winner Juan
Ignacio Chela. Phau is hoping to end the season in the top 100 on the very first occasion since 2006 when he ended at number 78 on the tour.
Baghdatis, the 25-year-old, is coming off his runner up performance in Moscow where the Cypriot was beaten by Viktor Troicki in a three-setter clash. He stands at a win loss mark of 42-26 on the season. Marcos is appearing in Vienna on the first occasion
since 2007 when he was bundled out by Andreas Seppi in the opening round. His best result this season came in January, when the right hander won his fourth ATP World Tour crown in Sydney. He is currently ranked number 20 in the ATP Ranking list.
