2010 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy; Preview of the evening session on Wednesday
The Croatian tennis ace Marin Cilic and Jan Hajek from the Czech Republic will play the opening match of the evening session at the 2010 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy on Wednesday.
World number ninety eight Hajek reached the second round in Vienna on the second occasion in a row on Monday with a straight set victory over Pere Riba of Spain.The score line was 6-0, 6-2. The 27-year-old Hajek enters with a match record of 13-19 on the
season. His best ATP World Tour record in 2010 came on clay back in May when he made his way into the quarter final round in Munich where the Czech player was toppled by Mikhail Youzhny.
The Olomouc resident is attempting to end the season in the top hundred on the second occasion in his career as he previously ended at number seventy six back in 2006.
The 22-year-old Croatian, Marin Cilic on the other hand is playing in Vienna for the third time and stands at 4-2 career mark. In last season he reached the title battle as a wild card entrant where he was defeated by Melzer. World number fourteen started
off his 2010 campaign with a title victory in Chennai where he got the better of Wawrinka.
One month later, he captured another title in Zagreb, beating Berrer in straight sets. Cilic also posted his career best Grand Slam run this season at the Australian Open as he advanced into the semi-final before losing at the hands of number one Brit Andy
Murray. He enters with a match record of 37-19 on the year and has so far reached the quarters or better on seven occasions in 2010.
In the concluding battle of the day, Tobias Kamke from Germany will meet Philipp Kohlschreiber on the second occasion in his career.
The right handed Kamke who is currently ranked number seventy two in the world has made one of the biggest jumps into the top hundred in 2010, as he improved his ranking from number 254 last year to number seventy two this week on the tour.
The 24-year-old Kamke is playing in Vienna on the very first occasion in his career and won his first round match of the tournament by beating his compatriot player Matthias Bachinger in two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-4. The German enters with
a win loss mark of 6-6 on the season.
The top German on the ATP World Tour, Kohlschreiber, is attempting to make his way into his eight quarter final or better in 2010 and for the third time in Vienna in a row. The 27-year-old is currently ranked number thirty five in the South African Airways
2010 ATP list. Last year he couldn’t go beyond the semi-final stage. Kohlschreiber started his tournament’s campaign with a two-setter victory over Falla on Monday. The score line was 6-0, 6-3.
He enjoys a lifetime mark of 6-2 in Vienna. His best result this season was a semi-final appearance in Auckland and a quarter final show down in San Jose, Monte-Carlo, Munich and Halle. The German who made his ATP World Tour debut back in 2001 achieved his
career high ranking of world number twenty two back in 2009.
At the year’s final major, the United States Open in New York, Kohlschreiber couldn’t go beyond the second round. He is hoping to reach the quarters or better for the third time in a row in Vienna. He was also a semi-finalist back in 2008 and last year.
