2010 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy; Preview of the opening two clashes
An action-packed today’s schedule of the play at the 2010 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy will feature five second round clashes in Austria.
In the opening match of the day, Michael Berrer from Germany will face Pablo Cuevas, for the first time on the centre court.
The 30-year-old Berrer made his way into the second round in Austria after beating the sixth seed Guillermo Garcia Lopez in the opening round. The German enters with a win loss mark of 18-25 on the season. World number 53 is attempting to make his way into
his fourth ATP World Tour quarter-final or better in 2010.
Berrer is competing in Austria on the third occasion in his career. The left-hander achieved his career high ranking of number 42 back in May this season. He posted his season best result at the China Open in Beijing where Berrer got the better of world
number seven and grass court Grand Slam runner Tomas Berdych in three sets.
He is the third highest ranked German in the ATP ranking list behind Kohlschreiber and Mayer. He reached his first career ATP World Tour title battle in Zagreb back in February this season where the German was given a beating at the hands of Cilic.
The 24-year-old Cuevas, on the other hand stands at a win loss mark of 20-20 on the year. The top contender from Uruguay is currently ranked number 70 in the South African Airways 2010 ATP list. He made his way into his first ATP World Tour final four of
the year last week in Moscow where the right hander was eventually defeated by the ultimate winner Troicki.
He is appearing in Austria on the very first occasion in his career and has made his way into the second round after surpassing the top Dutch player Thiemo de Bakker in three sets. The final match score was 7-6,(6), 1-6, 6-4. Cuevas has yet to reach his
first ATP World tour singles title battle in his career. He stands at 4-2 in the doubles final and captured his biggest doubles title at Roland Garros along with his partner Horna two years ago.
The second clash of the day will feature Nicolas Almagro and Santiago Giraldo, who is a top tennis player from Colombia in their first ever meeting.
Almagro, who is currently ranked number 16 in the South African Airways 2010 ATP list is attempting to make his way into his eighth ATP World Tour quarter-final or better in 2010.
The 25-year-old who won a title in Bastad back in July enters with a match record of 42-23 on the season. Almagro captured his second title of the season in Gstaad after thrashing out Richard Gasquet in the finals. The right hander enjoys a career mark of
2-4 in Austria and couldn’t go beyond the quarters last year.
The 23-year-old Giraldo, on the other hand, comes in with a win loss mark of 18-21 on the season and is ranked number 69 in the South African Airways 2010 ATP list. The right hander is 2-1 in Austria and made his way into the second round after surpassing
Xavier Malisse in three sets on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. Giraldo is attempting to advance into his third ATP World Tour quarter-final in 2010. He previously reached the final eight in Chennai and‘s-Hertogenbosch.
