2010 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy: Tuesday’s Preview
The 2010 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy picks up heat as professionals battle it out in ten different matches scheduled for the day. The event enters its fourth day of play on Tuesday, 26th October.
In the centre court German Michael Berrer battles it out with 6th seed Spanish Guillermo Garcia- Lopez. The pair has a 1-0 head to head score in the Spaniard’s favour as the two battled it out earlier this year at the
PTT Thailand Open. With the defeat fresh in his mind, will Berrer up his game against Lopez tomorrow to level the head to head score? Or will the 6th seed prove to have an edge over the German and up the lead by one point? These questions will just
be answered tomorrow in Vienna as the pair battles it out in the first matchup of the day.
Wild card entry James Blake from America will meet Polish Lukasz Kubot in the second matchup of the day. Number forty one in the world rankings, the Polish has had an unlucky year with early knockouts in most of the ATP events
with the exception of making it to the quarterfinals of two Grand Slams, the French Open and the United States Open.
Lucky loser Andreas Haider-Maurer from Austria will play his compatriot and former world number one Thomas Muster, a wild card entry into the tournament. Muster aged forty three is the oldest player in the tournament.  The winner
of this match will go onto play the Italian Andreas Seppi later in the tournament. Seppi moved into the second round after his straight set win over the Austrian Martin Fischer.
In Court B, Dutch number one Thiemo de Bakker will battle it out with Pablo Cuevas from Uruguay. With a head to head score resting at 0-0 this will be the pair’s first ever match against each other. The winner of this match will
face the winner of the Lopez vs. Berrer match later in the tournament.
Turkish Marsel Ilhan will face the Slovenian professional Grega Zemlja in a matchup scheduled for later in the day. Both players gained acceptance into the main draw from qualifying rounds; Ilhan moved into the main draw after
Maurer retired in the final qualifying match whereas, Zemlja won against Romanian Marius Copil to secure a spot for himself in the main draw.
Slovak Andrej Martin will face eighth seed Juan Ignacio Chelo from Argentina. Andrej Martin moved into the main draw from the qualifying round after having defeated German Dieter Kindlmann 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Germans Tobias Kamke and Matthias Bachinger will battle it out in the last matchup of the day. Matthias Bachinger gained automatic acceptance in the main draw after his opponent Filip Prpic took retirement in their final qualifying
match.
The first doubles match of the day will be played between the Austrian team of Melzer brothers - Gerald and Jurgen, and the pair of Berrer and Bakker. Though seeded first in the singles main draw, Jurgen along with his brother
were a wild card entry into the doubles.
Another wild card entry into the tournament is the team of countrymen Maurer and Niki Moser. In the second and final doubles matchup of the day, they will face the 4th seeded team of Austrian Julian Knowle and Israeli
Andy Ram.
