The third seed pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Miryni will meet the fifth seed duo of Oliver Marach and Lukasz Kubot in the second doubles match of the day at 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals on Monday. Mahesh and Max enjoy a 2-1 lead over Lukasz and
Oliver in their head to head series.
The Belarusian/Indian pair of Max and Mahesh regrouped in 2010 on the first occasion since 2004 and successfully made its way into the season finale in London for the third time together. They have so far advanced into a total of five finals, including four
ATP World Tour Masters 1000 competitions on the tour.
Mahesh along with Max won their only crown at ATP Masters 1000 Paris after getting the better of Knowles-Ram in straight sets in the last week of the regular year. The duo didn’t start off the season ideally however turned things around later by reaching
the final in Miami where they missed just a single set on their way to the title battle before falling to Dlouhy-Paes in straight sets.
In their next competition at Monte-Carlo, the Indian/Belarusian pair brushed aside the number one duo of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan in the final eight stages before Mahesh pulled out of the event in the final against Zimonjic and Nestor as a result of his
leg injury. They did not triumph in back to back clashes again until the grass court Grand Slam tournament in London. After taking a break of one month, they came back on the tour to play in the summer hard court circuit and reached the semi final round in
Toronto, final in Cincinnati and semi final in New Heaven.
At the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York, they were bundled out in the second round by Schwank-Zeballos. In most recent performance, the duo made their way into the fourth final of the year in Valencia, losing to Murray brothers
who won their first tour level doubles title of their career. Just a week later, they won another crown in Paris. Mahesh has captured at least one ATP World Tour trophy for fourteen straight seasons since 1997 whereas Mirnyi has won at least one title for
twelve years in a row since 1999.
Mahesh announced on Sunday that he will be rejoining his partner Laender Paes in 2011. They enjoy a match record of 223-81 on the tour and have together triumphed in twenty four Davis Cup clashes in a row.
The Austrian–Polish pair of Marach and Kubot, on the other hand, made its way into the main draw of Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London on the second occasion in a row.
They jumped off to a lifetime best start of 14-3 in the opening two months of action, advancing into three finals in a row during Latin American clay court swing.
Kubot and Marach posted their best result of the season by grabbing a crown in Santiago back in February, beating Starace-Zeballos in the final, followed by runners up showing in Costa do Sauipe. The duo did not triumph in back to back clashes again until
May at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Rome where they marched into the semi final round before losing to Bryan Brothers from U.S.
At the clay court Grand Slam championship, the French Open in Roland Garros, Kubot and Marach finished as quarter finalist to Nestor-Zimonjic followed by an opening round loss at Wimbledon. After taking a break, they made a return on the tour back in August
and played in Cincinnati where they couldn’t go beyond the semi final round.
In their most recent performance, the fifth seed duo of Marach and Kubot reached the semi final round in Shanghai as well as in Valencia.
