2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals: Nestor/ Zimonjic versus Norman/ Moodie –
Doubles Match Preview
The second seed pair of Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor will take on the eighth seed pair of d**k Norman and Wesley Moodie in the first doubles match of the day at 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London on Monday. Daniel and Nenad lead Wesley and
d**k in their head to head series at 3-0.
The world number two side of Nestor and Nenad compiled another consistent year with a final mark of 6-4 on the tour. They posted the best result of the season by winning a Grand Slam crown at French Open where they got the better of Dlouhy-Paes in the title
battle. Nenad and Nestor also successfully defended their title at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Monte Carlo where they overpowered Bhupathi-Mirnyi in straight sets.
At the year’s opening Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open in Melbourne, the duo finished as runners up to Bryan Brothers from the United States of America. It was Nestor’s fourth career final in Melbourne. Just a month later, Nestor along with Nenad
repeated their title in Rotterdam, beating Aspelin-Hanley in straight sets.
In March at Indian Wells, the pair was ousted in the title battle by wild card entrants Lopez-Nadal in straight sets. During European clay-court circuit, they together won crowns in Monte-Carlo as well as in Barcelona, beating Hewitt-Knowles and were runners
up at ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Madrid to Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan.
At the clay court Grand Slam tournament in Roland Garros, Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic brushed aside last year’s champions Dlouhy-Paes in the title battle and as a result, regained the top spot in the ATP list. It was their first major trophy as a pair.
On grass, the Nestor-Nenad duo made their way into the semi finals at Queen’s Club before losing in the round two at Wimbledon. During the American summer hard-court season, their notable performances include two quarter final showings in ATP World Tour
Masters 1000 Toronto and New Heaven. At the year’s final major, the United States Open in New York, the two couldn’t go beyond the third round.
They, however, returned to action with a semi final run at the China Open in Beijing, followed by a quarter final appearance at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Shanghai.
Just a few days later, they snapped a five month trophy drought with victory in Vienna, defeating Fyrstenberg-Matkowski. Both of them are playing in their last tournament of the season as they made an announcement last month that they will split after the
season finale in London.
The Belgian-South African pair of Norman and Moodie, on the other hand, are playing at the Barclays ATP World Tour in London on the first occasion in their career. They however had served as alternates back in 2009.
Despite the fact that they haven't advanced into a single ATP World Tour title battle throughout the year, Norman and Moodie were consistently regular weekend performers, storming into seven semi finals on the tour.
Nestor and Moodie joined up in 2009 on the first occasion but played with different partners during the initial three months of this season. Moodie enjoys a lifetime mark of 1-4 with three different partners. Both of them reunited in April at ATP World Tour
Masters 1000 Monte Carlo where they couldn’t go beyond the semi final stage, losing to Nestor-Zimonjic in straight sets.
Moodie along with Nestor lost three first round clashes in a row before turning things around with a semi final showing at the French Open in Roland Garros where once again the duo was toppled by Nestor-Zimonjic.
The pair however played well on grass with semi final performances in 's-Hertogenbosch and Wimbledon. During the North American summer hard court swing, the duo advanced into the final four in Gstaad, ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Cincinnati and final eight
in New York.
Their best showing in the last two months was a semi final appearance in Stockholm.
