2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals; Roger Federer cruises past Andy Murray in
London
The Swiss tennis maestro Roger Federer moved a step closer to a spot in the semifinal round of the 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London with a two setter win over Andy Murray on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-4 6-2.
Currently ranked number two in the South African Airways ATP list, Federer proved too strong for the Scott in his second round -robin clash of the elite eight man field and thus avenged his recent defeats at the hands of Murray
by securing a comprehensive victory in the end. The battle concluded in a time period of one hour and sixteen minutes.
“I am happy that I am playing so well. Andy had beaten me the last two times we played,” commented the sixteen time Grand Slam champion in a television interview quickly after his victory.
The 29-year-old Federer took the first set with the help of a single break and totally dominated the second with nineteen winners to Scott’s fourteen with an additional help from Murray’s twenty six unforced errors. Roger is a
four time winner at the prestigious event in London and is attempting to cap his fifth crown of the season.
He did well to stay ahead of Murray right from the start of the match and wrapped up the opening set with ease at 6-4 versus the number one Brit. The right hander needed just thirty six minutes to win the first set as he mustered
91% points on his opening serve and fired eleven winners to make it an easy affair for him in the end.
The former world number one continued his dominance in the decisive set as well as he earned the break during the first game and hit again by getting the second break during the third game to take a lead of 3-0. He maintained the
lead and sealed win to make his way into the next round of the competition.
The 23-year-old Murray who still owns a lifetime mark of 8-6 versus Federer did not play at his very best and struggled particularly with his serve right from the start of the battle and in the end had to pay the price for it.
“I got off to a bad start in both sets, which does not help. I returned poorly, served poorly. Against him, that is not going to win you the match,” lamented Murray after his loss on Tuesday.
