2010 Carfax 400 – Top Five Contenders
The NASCAR Nationwide series is to take place soon and will be distinguishing the men from the boys. The race is going to take place at D-shaped Michigan International Speedway between the gorgeous Irish Hills. Cars can go over 300 km/h, with the long straightaways and sweeping corners putting the drivers to a test. NASCAR has also announced that they will be showcasing “The Car of Tomorrow” in the following championship.
With that said, let’s take a look at the top 5 drivers to contend at the NASCAR Championship.
Denny Hamlin
Denny is last season’s champions and has a nice average to begin with. At 29 he has had 10 wins and finished in Top ten 68 times with 15 Pole starts. He started off his career in 2004 and by 2006 he became Raybestos Rookie of the Year. Denny has only finished once after 14 in his entire career, at the moment J. J Yeley and Denny are tired for the lead after. Just by one win this week, he’ll guarantee himself the top position in points.
Jeff Gordon
Unquestionably always the underdog at Michigan, making a lot of second finishes in his career. He finished at fourth earlier this season and finished at second in the past two-years. Although he might be without a single win, he is a true contender and always misses a win by literally inches. Jeff consistency is remarkable, however he needs to prove he is a legitimate driver, and upcoming year would be a great chance for him to establish the fact he is one of the greats.
Carl Edwards
Edwards has one of the best resume out of the great drivers this year, he won here back-to-back once in 07’ and 08’ respectively.  He made his debut as a professional racer in 2001 and since then has added many prestigious accolades to his achievements list, including a 2003 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series – Rookie of the Year, 2005 NASCAR Busch Series – Rookie of the year and 2007 NASCAR Busch Series Championship. Earlier this year, he might have finished at 12th position, but the upcoming championship will certainly give him a much needed breakout and it won’t be surprising if the 31-year-old dominates.
Tony Stewart
Where does one start about Tony; the veteran has had more than 38 top finishes and 9 wins. He might have not won the last nine championships, but he still managed to make it to the top10 six times. This year the 39 year-old racer will face a lot of competition but like every year the experienced driver gives the audience something to talk about. Realistically speaking, Tony grasping the 1st position might be a long shot; however he did finish at the 5th position earlier this season meaning he still has some spark left in him.
Greg Biffle
Greg has made it to the top10 in the past four events, with two top 5. Greg has come a long way in his career, with 149 top tens and 20 wins, making his big bust in 2002 at the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Greg has shown his determination at the Pocono and Indianapolis this year. His best finish this year was at fourth place, and he definitely has a major shot at the championship. The 40-year-old won the 1998 Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the Year, 2000 Craftsman Truck Series Championship, 2001 Busch Series Rookie of the Year and 2002 Busch Series Champion.
This year the Carfax arena will be jam-packed, as tickets of the upcoming races are reportedly almost sold out. Fans are expecting much as every year and Carl Edward being the favourite this year according to various polls is expected to take the lead. Fans are advised to sit back, as they would be getting extremely engaging and competitive races to watch this year.
