2010 China Open Men’s singles competition: Saturday’s Preview
A total of two final four clashes will be contested at the 2010 China Open Men’s singles competition for today’s schedule of the play.
In the first semi-final round in Beijing, Novak Djokovic will take on John Isner from the United States of America, who made his way into the semi-finals after getting the better of Nikolay Davydenko in the quarters.
The 23-year-old Djokovic is playing in the semi-final or better on the seventh occasion in fifteen championships this season. This is his first competition since advancing into the final of the United States Open in New York last month and currently enjoys
a match record of 47-13 on the year. The Serbian after ending as runner up in Flushing Meadows also helped his team to win the semi-final round of the Davis Cup versus the Czech Republic. Novak, however, so far has captured just a single crown this season
that came in Dubai during the month of March. The Serbian regained his number two spot in the ATP world rankings after the United States Open last month.
The American, on the other hand, who is currently enjoying a match record of 34-19 on the season has reached the finals on four occasions in 2010. Isner won his first career ATP World Tour crown back in January after defeating Clement in Auckland as well
as reached the title battle in Memphis next month, where he was toppled by Sam Querrey. Isner also concluded as runner up in a three day marathon clash at Wimbledon against Nicolas Mahut that was stretched to eleven hours and five minutes at the All England
Club earlier this season. The American was also voted by his fellow contenders as the ATP Most Improved contender of the season back in 2009 after improving his ranking from 145 to number 38 in the world.
Although Novak enjoys an excellent record of 7-0 lifetime in Beijing, however, John could be a hard for him, having already pushed the Serbian to a total of five sets in their only past battle in the Davis Cup this season.
In the second semi final match on Lotus Court, the eight seed David Ferrer will meet Ivan Ljubicic for a spot in the title battle in Beijing. World number eleven Ferrer is in the semi finals or better on the tenth occasion this year. The 28-year-old currently
enjoys a match record of 51-18 in 2010. He has won a total of fifty one clashes this year which is his second best season behind sixty one back in 2007. Ferrer triumphed in his first clash at the China Open on Tuesday with a two-setter victory over Denis Istomin.
He made his way into the final four with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over world number five Robin Soderling on Friday. David, who reached his career high ranking of world number four back in 2008, stands at 27-49 lifetime versus the top ten foes.
The 31-year-old Ljubicic, on the other hand is making his second semi-final appearance of the season. He previously made his way into the semi-finals here back in 2007 and quarters back in 2006 as well as last year. World number seventeen, Ivan won his opening
round match in Beijing after getting the better of Youzhny on Tuesday, followed by his quarter final win over the second seed Andy Murray of Scotland on Friday. He currently enjoys a match record of 20-14 on the year and won the biggest crown of his career
back in March at the Indian Wells after beating Roddick in the title battle. Ivan has so far played hundred top ten foes in his career.
