2010 China Open: Second Round Recap (Women's Draw)

An assortment of tennis professionals zipped through to the third round of the 2010 China Open, in contrast to which several players were sent home upon facing defeat in the initial few rounds of the tournament.

Defending champion Vera Zvonareva defeated Germany's Andrea Petkovic to make a place for herself in the third round of the 2010 China Open. Upon thrashing Petkovic 6-4 and 6-1, two sets in a row, Zvonareva was put through to the following round and will be
made to oppose compatriot, Maria Kirilenko.

Kirilenko eliminated Argentina's Gisela Dulko, defeating her 6-2 in the first set and 6-2 in the third set, prior to losing the second set 3-6, in the second round match played between the two.

Italy's Francesca Schiavone got rid of Slovenia's Polona Hercog, thrashing her 6-3 and 6-3 in straight sets to advance to the third round of the tournament. Schiavone will come face to face with Russia's Vera Dushevina in the third round of their draw.

Prior to qualifying for the third round, Dushevina annihilated Italy's Roberta Vinci to advance at the tournament. After losing 3-6 in the first set of the match, Vera rose up in terms of her performance to take the second set 6-2, followed by a 6-3 win in
the third set.

Seeded no. 7 in the tournament, Russia's Elena Dementieva got through China's Kimiko Date Krumm, defeating her 6-3, 1-6 and 6-3, to secure a place for herself in the next round. The Russian will be faced by Serbian Ana Ivanovic in the third round. Ivanovic
eliminated Belarus' Olga Govortsova 6-0 and 7-5 in straight sets to proceed to the next round.

In an all-Serbian tussle, Bojana Jovanovski beat Jelena Jankovic in their second round match to make it through to the third round of the tournament. After taking the first set 6-4, much to Jankovic's dismay, Jovanovski took the remaining set 6-2.

Bojana will be made to compete with Israel's Shahar Pe'er in the third round of their draw. Pe'er defeated Switzerland's Patty Schnyder 6-4 and 6-2 to make it through to the third round.

On the contrary, Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky was put through to the next round, defeating Belarus' Victoria Azarenka 4-6 and 3-2 in the second set, right before Azarenka chose to retire due to an injury.

Bacsinszky will go head to head with Russia's Elena Vesnina in the third round match of their draw. Earlier, in order to make it through to the third round, Vesnina defeated fellow country-woman Maria Sharapova 7-6 and 6-2 in the second round match played between
the two.

Amongst the triumphant professionals were also China's Li Na, Russia's Nadia Petrova, Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova and the Czech Republic's Petra Kvitová. Hopefully, the third round of the 2010 China Open will be just as action packed as the first few rounds
of the tournament.
