2010 Compuware NHL Premier Series weekend roundup: Washington Capitals win 3-2 against the Nashville Predators in OT

The game between the Washington Capitals and the Nashville Predators took place this past Saturday at the Bridgestone Arena, home of the Predators. The Washington Capitals were playing in their 5th game and the Nashville Predators played in the
4th game of the campaign.
During the course of the 1st period, both teams came up with strong shots regularly in search for a goal. The home team was the dominating of the proceeding, as they came up with regular shots on the opposing goal. They managed to fire 18 shots
at the end of the 1st period and were able to score a goal. The goal was scored by J-P Dumont in the 18th minute through a perfect 30 feet wrist off shot.
The period ended with the score 1-0 in favour of the home team. The Nashville Predators ended the period making 7 goal attempts out of which none found the back of the net.
The 2nd period saw the home team started strongly as they started off the period on a high coming up with splendid plays and accurate shooting. They worked hard as a single unit and managed to score in the 6th minute to establish a
2 goal lead. The goal was scored by Jordin Tootoo from 29 feet who hit a splendid wrist off shot. The period didn’t see much after this as both teams came up with shots but none was able to find the back of the net.
During the course of the period, the Nashville Predators scored 1 goal out of the 12 goal attempts they made compared to the 13 shots of the Washington Capitals who didn’t score any goal.
The 3rd period saw the home team take the foot off the gas but this went against them, as the Washington Capitals scored 2 goals to level things and take the match into overtime. The first of the 2 goals came in the 5th minute during
power play and was scored by Alexander Semin from 22 feet. The 2nd goal that levelled things was scored by Tomas Fleischmann in the 13 minute.
When the game went into overtime, the Washington Capitals won the match 3-2 through Brooks Laich’s goal in the 2nd minute.
Columbus Blue Jackets win 3-2 against the Minnesota Wild
The 61st game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Minnesota Wild lose against the Columbus Blue at home. The game saw the Columbus Blue Jackets score a goal in the each of the periods to win the match.
During the 1st period, the Columbus Blue Jackets not only came up with a strong from line but the defence was almost non-porous. This restricted the Minnesota Wild to only 2 shots during the course of the 1st period.
There was 1 goal in the period that came in favour of the Columbus Blue Jackets that was scored by Dorsett in the 14th minute. The rest of the period didn’t see almost anything from the Minnesota Wild as the away team dominated the game.
When the 2nd period began, it was the Minnesota Wild who came out stronger of the two teams and scored in the 5th minute to level things. The goal was scored by Brent Burns through a splendid backhand from 21 feet.
The Columbus Blue Jackets formed plays of their own and scored in the 10th minute to regain the lead once again through Derek McKenzie’s goal from 16 feet. But the lead was not last for long as the Minnesota Wild tied things once again in the
17th minute from a goal scored by Cal Cutterbuck.
The teams went into the break tied at 2-2 and promised an exciting last few moments.
When the 3rd period started, the home team looked stronger but they couldn’t score. The only goal of the period came in favour of the Columbus Blue Jackets who scored through R.J Umberger through a 13 feet wrist off shot. The game ended as the
Blue Jackets won the match 3-2.
