Edmonton Oilers lose 5-3 against the Calgary Flames
This Saturday, the Edmonton Oilers played the Calgary Flames at home in a very exciting and high scoring game. The game took place at the Scotibank Arena with both teams eager to win.
Both teams were playing in their 4th game of the campaign and showed the desire to win earlier in the pre-match conference.
The 1st period saw the Calgary Flames take up this opposing defence firing a few shots that tested the goal keepers. But as the game progressed, Edmonton got into the flow of the game and they managed to score in the 6th minute to silence
the home crowd of around 20,000. The goal came through Ales Hemsky backhand shot from 8 feet that found the back of the net.
The Calgary Flames were determined on not letting the Edmonton Oilers get away and confidently started to come up with attacks too. They worked hard to get past the opposing defence every now and then.
This proved to be successful as the Edmonton Oilers scored in the 10th minute to level things with a goal from Alex Tanguay. The period ended with no further goals as both teams scored 1 goal each with the Calgary Flames managing twice as many
shots as the Edmonton Oilers with 10.
The 2nd period began in an exquisite manner for the Edmonton Oilers as they scored to take the lead in the opening 22 seconds of the period. The goal was scored by Dustin Penner from 24-feet. However, the lead didn’t last long as the Calgary Flames
scored in the 3rd minute to level things once again. The goal was scored by Brendan Morrison, who scored from a spectacular 17 feet shot.
The Edmonton Oilers hunger for a win and determination saw them scoring once again and regaining the lead in the 5th minute with the goal coming from Magnus Paarjarvi. The period ended with the Edmonton Oilers in the lead with the score at 3-2.
The final period saw the Calgary Flames turn the tables as they scored 4 times to win the match 5-2.
The first goal came in the 5th minute through an 11 feet tip in by Niklas Hangman leveling the score at 3-3. The Flames scored once again to take the lead in the 8th minute. The goal was scored by Captain of the Calgary Flames, Jarome
Iginla. The Calgary Flames despite being in the lead pressed on in search for another goal and were successful when they scored in the 20th minute to seal the match 5-2. The goal came from Alex Tanguay, who bagged his 2nd of the match.
Atlanta Thrashers win 4-2 against the San Jose Sharks after trailing 2-0 in the 1st period
The home team, San Jose Sharks, went up against the Atlanta Thrashers this Saturday. The home team dominated the proceedings during the 1st period when they displayed excellent ice hockey.
The defence and the offence were both very strong. The offence saw the San Jose Sharks scoring twice during the 1st period.
Both of the goals came in quick succession and were scored in the 16th minute. The first goal was scored by Dany Heatly and the 2nd was scored by Ryane Clowe from 44 feet. The period ended with the score 2-0 in favour of the San Jose
Sharks after they made 10 shots.
The 2nd period saw the Atlanta Thrashers being the more successful of the two sides in terms of scoring as they came up with 2 goals this time around. With the end of the 2nd period the score was level once again, which promised us
an exciting 3rd period.
The goals for the Atlanta Thrashers were scored by Andrew Ladd and Anthony Stewart in the 2nd and 14th minute respectively.
The 3rd period saw the Atlanta Thrashers dictate the game once again and they scored in the 14th minute during a power play to take the lead. The goal was scored by Dustin Byfuglien. The Atlanta Thrasher were content on finishing the
game on a high and when they scored once again in the 16th minute to take the lead through Evander Kane they were in total control of the game. The period and match ended with the score 4-2 in favour of the Atlanta Thrashers.
