2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series: Anaheim Ducks 3-2 defeat 2009 Stanley Cup champions Pittsburgh Penguins
The 186th game of 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series today took us to Honda Centre, home of Anaheim Ducks. The game saw the home team up against Pittsburgh Penguins. Both were playing in the 14th game of their respective campaigns with
around 17,000 fans coming out to support them.
The home team were quickly out off the block as they fired some good shots early on. They came up with excellent shooting and passing which saw them coming close to scoring in the early minutes but the shots just went wide.
There was an exchange of quick passes that left the defending team helpless at times. Although, both teams came up with brilliant skills pitch, they still weren’t able to convert any of the chances into goals as the 1st
period ended with the score deadlocked at 0-0. During the course of the period, Ducks made 7 goal attempts while Penguins made 5 such attempts.
The 2nd period saw the home team start on a high once again. Their hard work eventually paid off as they scored in the 8th minute to take the first lead. The goal was scored by Bobby Ryan through a flick shot from 37 feet. Ducks continued
with their dominating performance. The constant growth of confidence resulted in their second goal, scored by Captain Ryan Getzlaf from 16 feet through a spectacular shot.
Ducks struck again to take the score to 3-0. Their third goal was scored by Saku Koivu from a simple tip shot. Now, Penguins also really felt the need to score and they did exactly that in the 18th minute. They scored to pull one goal back with
the goal being scored by Penguins' Captain, Sidney Crosby that went into the goal after a deflection.
The period ended with Penguins leading by 3-1. During the period, Penguins made 15 goal attempts while Ducks made 8. The final period saw Penguins start by attacking the opposition. They managed to again score in the 4th minute to cut their opponent’s
lead to just one goal. This goal was also scored by Crosby through a backhand shot.
The period didn’t see any further goals as Anaheim Ducks won the match by 3-2. During the final period, Ducks made 4 goal attempts while Pittsburgh Penguins made 12 such attempts.
