The Dallas Stars knew that if they wanted any chance of coming back they had to score early on. This why they attacked the opposing team from the start of the period keeping in mind the risk of leaving open spaces behind.
However, this paid off as they scored in the 7th minute to cut the lead to one goal with the score on 3-2. The goal was scored by Brain Sutherby through some good wrist work 5 feet away from goal.
The Anaheim Ducks realizing the fact that their lead was under threat stepped up their game too. They manage to regain the 2 goals lead as they scored in the 11th minute through Selanne and then once again in the 16th minute to wrap
up the match. The goal was scored by Corey Perry through a spectacular tip in from 7 feet.
"I think we made a lot of mistakes, but nothing from a lack of effort," Dallas captain Brenden Morrow said.
"But once again it was special teams that kind of let us down. The power play could have been huge for us early. I think we had the first three or four opportunities, and against a team like this who is aggressive, you have to put them away. We could have
done that early."
