2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– Anaheim Ducks win 1-0 against New York Islanders
The 216th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the New York Islanders play the Anaheim Ducks. This game was played this Wednesday in front of 14,000 fans at the Honda Centre, home of the Anaheim Ducks.
The New York Islanders was playing the 15th game and the Anaheim Ducks played the 17th game of the campaign thus far. The match was a very tough and intriguing battle that saw the New York Islanders eventually come out on top with the
score 1-0 in favour of the Anaheim Ducks.
The 1st period was completely dominated by the away side, who displayed some excellent skills while on the pitch. They displayed excellent passing and shooting abilities. Along with the strong offence, they maintained a very tight defence that
was almost impossible to get past.
The Anaheim Ducks had almost nothing during the period as they couldn’t even manage shots. The period ended with the scores deadlocked at 0-0. During the course of the period, the Anaheim Ducks made just one goal attempt whereas the New York Islanders made
7 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the home team change the strategy that seemed to work for them. They started to come up with shots but they couldn’t come near the goal. Both teams came close to scoring quite a few times but much to their disappointment neither
of the teams was able to score a goal. The period saw players in open positions but they didn’t have the final touch.
The 2nd period saw the New York Islanders come up with splendid plays but the story was the same as the previous period that they couldn’t score. The period ended with the score still 0-0. During the period, the Anaheim Ducks made 6 goal attempts
while the New York Islanders made 11 goal attempts.
The 3rd period saw the home team start off in spectacular fashion and with the hard work and confidence worked and they were rewarded with a goal. The goal was scored in the 4th minute by Saku Koivu through a powerful strike from 27
feet.
After taking the lead, the home team started to concentrate on defence. This resulted in the New York Islanders coming up with good pieces of play and coming across scoring opportunities but they couldn’t score.
The period came to an end with the Anaheim Ducks winning 1-0. During the period the Anaheim Ducks made 7 goal attempts while the New York Islanders made 9 goal attempts.
