2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Anaheim Ducks win 1st game at home 4-3 against the Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks were up against the Anaheim Ducks this Wednesday at the Honda Centre, home of the Ducks. The Vancouver Canucks played their 3rd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series with the 1st away game and the Anaheim
Ducks played their 4th game of the series while playing in their 1st home game. The 41st game of the season saw an attendance of 18,000 people who came to cheer for their respective teams.
1st Period                                                                                   

The home team, Anaheim Ducks got out of the blocks early and dominated the play. They played with the basics that were to keep the passing short and firing a venomous shot when in an open position.
Both teams were content on maintaining a good tight defence early on but as the period progressed, they felt that they needed score. This created opportunities for both team as the defence was easily passed by both teams. Following the basics to the fullest,
the Anaheim Ducks scored in the 3rd minute of the match through a splendid 21 feet wrist of shots Captain Ryan Getzlaf taking the lead.
The Vancouver Canucks were fresh from a victory last time out and coming up with similar plays, they scored in the 4th minute to level things. The goal was scored by Captain Henrik Sedin that cancelled his counterparts lead. The Vancouver Canucks
pushed further for another goal. With the momentum and confidence in their favour, the Vancouver Canucks scored once again in the 6th minute to take the lead. The 2-1 lead was taken by Vancouver Canucks through Raffi Torres deflected shot from 11
feet.
The period ended with the Vancouver Canucks leading. The rest of the period didn’t see much happening as both teams got chances but couldn’t score. The Vancouver Canucks scored 2 goals in the period out of the 16 goal attempts they made. The Anaheim Ducks
also scored once out of the 13 goal attempts made by them.
2nd Period
The 2nd period was less productive in terms of goals as well as scoring opportunities. Both teams felt that they were in a comfortable position with the score close. The 1 goal lead of the Vancouver Canucks was looking to be cut down soon since
the home team, Anaheim Ducks showed some splendid skills in the department of offence as well as defence.
The Anaheim Ducks were successful in scoring in the 16th minute of the period in a power play. The goal was scored by Teemu Selanne that levelled the score at 2-2. The period ended with the same score as the both teams went in tied. The Vancouver
Canucks didn’t score in the period though they made 11 goal attempts. The Anaheim Ducks scored once out of the 5 goal attempts they made.
3rd Period
The 3rd saw 3 goals being scored in it out of which 2 were scored by Anaheim Ducks and 1 was scored by Vancouver Canucks.
The first goal came in the 6th minute of the period for the Vancouver Canucks that put them in the lead with the score 3-2. The goal was scored by Christian Ehrhoff. The Anaheim Ducks were eager to win the 1st game on their home and
backed by the home fans they scored in the 9th minute and 11th minute to take the lead and win the match.
The goal in the 9th minute was scored by Corey Perry and the goal in 11th minute was scored by Bobby Ryan. The Anaheim Ducks won the match 4-3 after making 14 goal attempts in the final period and scoring twice. The Vancouver Canucks
made 12 goal attempts and scored once.
"This is a huge win. We beat a really good hockey team," said Anaheim forward Teemu Selanne, whose second-period power-play goal tied the game at 2-2.
"It was not pretty, but the bottom line is you have to find a way to win the game. This was a great confidence boost for our club."
"Getzie made a great pass, and I didn't really see anybody open," Selanne said.
"I've shot so many times from that spot. I must know where to put it. It's fun to see when the puck goes in and that I can help the team that way."
