2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Anaheim Ducks win 3-2 against the Edmonton Oilers after shootout
The final game of Tuesday saw the Edmonton Oilers play host to the Anaheim Ducks. The match was played at the Rexall Place in front of 17,000 fans. This was the 405th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The game also marked the 30th
game of the campaign for the Anaheim Ducks while the Edmonton Oilers played the 27th game of the season.
Both team made a decent start to the match as they came up with a strong offence. The later stages of the period saw the teams maintain a very tight defence that didn’t allow any attacks. The home team was the stronger in the middle part of the period if
we talk about the attacks made.
However, as the end of the period approached, it was the Edmonton Oilers who managed to come up with strong attacks but they couldn’t manage to come up with the strong defence that their counterparts managed.
The period didn’t see any goals being scored and ended with scores deadlocked at 0-0. During the course of the first 20 minutes of play the Edmonton Oilers made 10 goal attempts while the Anaheim Ducks made 8 goal attempts.
The Anaheim Ducks despite being the away team and almost no support was the confident of the two teams. They were able to construct attacks regularly which resulted in them scoring in the 6th minute to take the lead of the match.
The goal was scored by Saku Koivu from a very well placed flick shot. The period didn’t see any more goals although both teams had chances. The period ended with the Anaheim Ducks leading 1-0 and they made 9 goal attempts while the Edmonton Oilers made 10
goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw the Anaheim Ducks double the lead as they scored in the 7th minute. The goal was scored by Teemu Selanne from a spectacular backhand shot.
The Edmonton Oilers knew that if they were to have any chance of a comeback, they had to score as soon as possible. This is exactly what they did and scored in the 11th minute. The goal was scored by Ryan Jones from a wonderful strike.
The Edmonton Oilers successfully levelled the score in the 14th minute when Dustin Penner scored from a flick shot. The period ended with the scores level on 2-2. There were no goals in overtime but Cam Fowler’s goal in shootout saw the Anaheim
Ducks winning the match 3-2.
