The final game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series on Wednesday was hosted by the Anaheim Ducks. The match saw the home team up against the Florida Panthers. This match was played at the Honda Centre as 12,500 fans attended
the 364th game of the season. This was the 23rd game for the Florida Panthers while the Anaheim Ducks played their 27th game of the campaign.
The away side was the stronger of the two at the start of the match. The Panthers came up with a very strong offence that saw them coming across scoring opportunities regularly but they failed to capitalize.
With the passage of time as it is the case the home side gained confidence and started attacking as well. The Anaheim Ducks attacked and defended very well which resulted in them unsettling the away side.
The home team resultantly scored in the 15th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by George Parros from a brilliant flick shot. The Anaheim Ducks made a few more goal attempts but they couldn’t score any further
goals. The period ended with the Anaheim Ducks leading 1-0. During the course of the period the Anaheim Ducks made 9 goal attempts while the Panthers made 8.
The Anaheim Ducks kept on piling the pressure on the visitors at the start of the 2nd period. Their hard work and determination paid off as they scored twice in the 7th minute.
The first goal was scored by Ryan Getzlaf through a simple tip-in shot. The second came from a flick shot by George Parros who scored his second for the night. The Anaheim Ducks led 3-0 at the time and relaxed after establishing
3 goals to their advantage.
However, the Florida Panthers took advantage of this and scored in the 9th minute to cut the lead to two goals. The goal was scored by Mike Santorelli from a splendid backhand strike. Both teams had several goal attempts
in the second half of the period but they failed to score.
Five or six goals could easily have been scored if it wasn’t for the goal keeper coming in the way. But unfortunately there were no more goals as the Anaheim Ducks led 3-1 as the period ended. During the 20 minutes of play, the
Florida Panthers made 13 goal attempts while the Ducks made 12.
The final 20 minutes of the match saw both teams start aggressively. Consequently, the Florida Panthers scored in the 2nd minute to trail 2-3. The goal was scored by Steve Bernier. However, the Anaheim Ducks worked hard
and stepped up their game once again and scored in the 2nd minute to double the lead once again. The goal was scored by Corey Perry through a powerful strike.
Both teams continued to attack which resulted in the Florida Panthers scoring once again in the 19th minute. The goal was scored by Steve Bernier from a decent strike. But it was the Anaheim Ducks who sealed the win
with another in the 20th minute through a wonderful backhanded shot by Bobby Ryan as the Ducks won the match 5-3.
