2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Atlanta Thrashers dominate to win 4-1 against the Boston Bruins

The second game of Sunday was played between the Atlanta Thrashers and the Boston Bruins. The match was played at the Philips Arena, home of the Atlanta Thrashers in front of 12,000 fans. This was the 346th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere
Series as the Atlanta Thrashers played their 24th game and the Boston Bruins played their 22nd game of the campaign thus far.
The Boston Bruins dominated the early part of the period as they bombarded shots on the goal. Getting regularly into scoring positions they threatened the goal but failed to score.
The home team was able to settle into the match with the passage of time and started to come up with excellent plays themselves. The Atlanta Thrashers made numerous shots before they finally broke the deadlock in the 9th minute. The goal was scored
by Evander Kane through a simple close range tip in.
After the goal, the Atlanta Thrashers absolutely gave the opposing team no space to work with and dictated the proceedings. The Thrashers total dominance in the period saw them scoring once again in the 13th minute to double the lead. The goal
was scored by Dustin Byfuglien from a flick shot.
The continuous pressure that the Atlanta Thrashers put on the opposing defence saw them coming across scoring opportunities regularly. The offence was very strong and they rose up to the occasion once again scoring in the 15th minute to bag their
third goal. The goal was scored by Jim Slater from a perfectly placed flick shot.
As the end of the period neared, the away side also came up with a few goal attempts but they couldn’t score and the teams went into the break with the Thrashers leading 3-0. During the first period the Atlanta Thrashers made 12 goal attempts while the Boston
Bruins made 10 goal attempts.
Boston Bruins started the 2nd period on a high offensively. They displayed some excellent skill in the department of passing and attacking which saw them scoring in the 13th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Blake Wheeler
from a decent long range shot.
The home team responded with a few shots out of which one found the back of the net in the 20th minute. The goal was scored by Niclas Bergfors through a simple tip in shot.
The period didn’t see any further goals as Atlanta Thrashers led 4-1 as the teams went into the break. During the 2nd period, the Atlanta Thrashers made 8 goal attempts and the Boston Bruins made 17 goal attempts.
Though the Boston Bruins dominated the final period offensively, it was the Atlanta Thrashers that dominated the defence. The away side was restricted to their won half and long range shooting. As a result, no goals were scored in the period and the match
ended 3-1 in favour of the Atlanta Thrashers.
The match ended with the Boston Bruins making 14 goal attempts and the Atlanta Thrashers making 6 goal attempts at the end of the 4th period.
