2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Atlanta Thrashers win 3-2 against the Colorado Avalanche
The 356th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played between the Colorado Avalanche and the Atlanta Thrashers. There were around 12,000 fans that came to witness the match that was played at the Pepsi Centre, home of the Colorado
Avalanche. This was the 25th game for the Atlanta Thrashers while the Colorado Avalanche played their 24th game of the campaign.
The Colorado Avalanche made a decent start to the match firing shots early on. They almost scored in the first minute of the period but the shot went just wide of goal. The home team constructed attacks during which they came up with brilliant passing.
However, it was the Atlanta Thrashers who scored the first goal in the 11th minute. The goal was scored by Rich Peverley from a decent flick shot. The Atlanta Thrashers continued to pile pressure on the home side and dominated the game. The Thrashers
came close to scoring on several occasions but were unable to score. In fact there were no more goals in the rest of the period.
The Atlanta Thrashers led 1-0 at the end of the first 20 minutes of the match. During the course of the period the Atlanta Thrashers made 15 goal attempts while the Colorado Avalanche was restricted to only 8 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw both the team approach the game with a defensive mentality. They came up with the occasional attacks.
The Atlanta Thrashers were good in offence early on but with the passage of time in the period the home side started to come up with shots. Much to the disappointment of the home crowd, the home team was unable to score in the 2nd period as well.
The Atlanta Thrashers also didn’t score any goals and the period ended with the Thrashers still leading 1-0. During the 2nd period the Thrashers made 5 goal attempts while the Avalanche made 9 goal attempts.
The final period of match saw the Colorado Avalanche finally level the score with a goal in the 2nd minute through Matt Duchene. The home team pressed on and sent the home crowd wild as they scored once more in the 11th minute to take
the lead. The goal was scored by David Jones.
However, the Atlanta Thrashers successfully scored in the 14th minute through Dustin Byfuglien to level the scores once again. The period ended with no further goals and the scores tied at 3-3.
This took the match into overtime during which the Atlanta Thrashers scored to win the match 4-3. The goal was scored by Anthony Stewart from a wrap around shot 2 minutes into overtime.
