2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Atlanta Thrashers win 4-3 against the Florida Panthers

Florida Panthers hosted the 167th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series this Wednesday at the Bank Atlantic Centre. The home team was up against the Atlanta Thrashers, as they played the 10th game of their campaign thus far.
On the other hand, the Atlanta Thrashers was playing the 12th game of their campaign with an attendance of around 11,000 fans. This was expected to be a close encounter and it sure was with the Thrashers just edging out at the end. The Thrashers
won the match 4-3 at the end scoring twice in the final period.
1st Period
Both teams had a slow start to the match as they couldn’t come up with any shots during the early stages of the match. Another flaw in both teams was the fact that they lost possession every now and then which resulted in both teams not being able to settle.
As the period progressed, both teams started to gain confidence and it was the Florida Panthers who broke the deadlock to take the lead. The goal was scored by Jason Garrison from a spectacular shot from 54 feet. After taking the lead, home team was content
on maintaining a tight and non porous defence. They were successful in doing but the Atlanta Thrashers scored with 5 seconds remaining to level the match that silenced the home crowd. The goal was scored by Freddy Modin from 17 feet through a spectacular flick
shot. The period ended with the scores level at 1-1.
The period saw score once during the course of the period as the Atlanta Thrashers made 7 goal attempts whereas the Florida Panthers made 10 goal attempts.
2nd Period
The 2nd period saw a slow start from both the teams once again as they were reluctant to attack. Both the teams preferred staying back and for opportunities to develop. This didn’t happen as both teams strategies cancelled out each other. However,
the Atlanta Thrashers was successful in taking the lead in the 10th minute.
The goal was scored by Freddy Modin once again who scored his second goal of the night. The goal came as a result of a spectacular shot from 15 feet. The home team started to come up with plays too and dominated the proceedings in the department of defence
and offence. With the constant hard work that the Florida Panthers was coming up with, the home team managed to score and level the score once again. The goal was scored by Steven Reinprecht from a simple tip in from 10 feet.
With the scores level, both the team started to attack so that they can take the lead but the amazing and spectacular thing in the period was the fact that the defence was brilliant. The defence and the offence for both teams were excellent that again cancelled
out each other’s effect.
The period ended with the scored level at 2-2. The Atlanta Thrashers and the Florida Panthers both scored one goal each out of the 5 and 23 goal attempts they made respectively.
3rd Period
The Florida Panthers took the lead early in the 3rd period. The goal that put the away team in the lead was scored by Bryan Allen in the 5th minute through a powerful strike from 50 feet. Taking the lead, the home team decided to concentrate
on the defence.
This worked for the first few minutes as the Atlanta Thrashers scored to level the match for the third time in the match. The goal was scored by Dustin Byfuglien from 62 feet. In the very next minute, the away team nagged another goal to establish 2 goals
to their advantage. The goal was scored by Niclas Bergfos from a decent strike 47 feet away from goal.
The period didn’t see any further goals as the Atlanta Thrashers won the match 4-3. During the final period, the Thrashers scored twice out of the 11 goal attempts whereas the Panthers scored once out of the 23 goal attempt they made.
After the match Florida Panthers Coach said, "We shouldn't give up four on 22 shots and we've got to score more than three on 55 shots," Panthers Coach Peter DeBoer said.
"There's fault at both ends."
"I don't know what to say about it other than just work hard and do the small details,"
Bergfors said. "Usually, you get a little lucky when you do that."
