2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Atlanta Thrashers win 6-4 against the New York Rangers in a close battle
This Wednesday, Madison Square Garden hosted the 123rd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The game saw the home team, New York Rangers up against the Atlanta Thrashers. Both teams put up an impressive show as the Atlanta Thrashers
managed to come out on top with the score on 6-4.
1st Period
The home team started the period strongly. They displayed some good skill with the puck while passing and shooting. The New York Rangers scored in the 1st minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Ryan Callahan from 9 feet through a flick
shot. The home team continued to put pressure on the Atlanta Thrashers but the experience and depth in their roster was able to deal with this.
They not only dealt the pressure but started to gain momentum and got on the offence every now and then. Making regular attacks on the opposing goal, the team scored in the 12th minute to level the score. The goal was scored by Bryan Little from
9 feet through a splendid backhand shot. During the course of the rest of the period, both the teams had the share of the chances but they couldn’t score any further goals as the period ended with the score level at 1-1.
The period ended with the two teams scoring 1 goal each as the Atlanta Thrashers made 12 goal attempts and the New York Rangers made 10 goal attempts.
2nd Period
The 2nd period saw the away team come out with loads of confidence and take the opposing defence on coming with attacks. They couldn’t score early on but with the hard work that they put in, they scored in the 11th minute to take the
lead. The goal was scored by Evander Kane through 17 feet shot.
However, the home team gained confidence and shot on goal too. With the constant shots on goal they were able to get one past the goal keeper in the 13th minute that levelled the score once again. The goal was scored by Sean Avery from 17 feet
through a powerful strike.
The Atlanta Thrashers were content on regaining the lead and they were successful in doing so by scoring in the 17th minute. The goal was scored by Niclas Bergfors from 18 feet through a wrap around shot. The period ended without any further goals
with the Atlanta Thrashers in the lead with the score at 3-2.
During the 20 minutes of the period, the Atlanta Thrashers scored 2 goals out of the 8 goal attempts and the New York Rangers scored 1 goal out of the 7 goal attempts they made.
3rd Period
The 3rd period was very entertaining for the fans due to the fact that there were so many goals scored. The first of which came in the very first minute almost when the period started. The goal came in favour of the Atlanta Thrashers and was scored
by Eric Boulton through a backhand shot from 13 feet.
The away team kept the pressure on and this resulted in the Atlanta Thrashers scoring once again in the 6th minute. The goal was scored by Dustin Byfuglien from a powerful shot from 26 feet. With the score at 5-2 the home team took the risk of
attacking by pushing all of the men forward.
Though it had a very high risk of going against them but much to their relief it paid off as they scored in the 8th minute. The goal was scored by Todd White through a flick shot from 8 feet. Trailing by 2 goals, the home teams pressed on in search
of another of goal. They managed to score once again in the 11th minute through Brain Boyle.
However, with the score on 5-4 the Atlanta Thrashers scored the next goal to seal the match. The goal was scored by Andrew Ladd through a splendid strike from 100 feet. The period and match ended with the score 6-4 in favour of the Atlanta Thrashers.
At the end of the match, the winning team’s Head Coach Criag Ramsay said, "Wow, we are fun to watch," Ramsay said with a hint of sarcasm. "We talk a lot about composure. The coaches have to be composed on the bench and the players have to be composed when
they step on the ice. They have to want the puck and that's one of the key things that I saw in the last while. Everybody on the bench wanted to play and everybody wanted the puck."
