2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Boston Bruins thrash New Jersey Devils 4-1

The 56th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the New Jersey Devils play host to the Boston Bruins. The game took place at the Prudential Centre this past Saturday, 16th October 2010. The game saw around 13,000 fans come
to watch the match as the home team was playing the 6th match of their campaign thus far. The Boston Bruins on the other hand was playing in the 3rd game, hoping to record a win. The game didn't see much happening in the 1st
and 3rd period but the 2nd period was a goal fiesta as the Boston Bruins emerged victorious thrashing the home side 4-1.
1st Period
The 1st period started off with the home team coming up with a few early attacks but none of the goal attempts were converted into goals. Both teams had flaws in the defence but neither could exploit this to put their team in the lead.
As the game progressed, both teams settled and after witnessing a very fast and attacking start to the game, both teams changed their strategies. They attacked a few times but didn't push all of their men forward but kept the defence strong at the same time.
This resulted in no goals during the period as the game went into the break with the score 0-0.
The home team, New Jersey Devils was able to make 11 goal attempts and the Boston Bruins also came up with 8 shots but none of the 19 shots found the back of the net.
2nd Period
The 2nd period saw the home side approach the game with attacking mentality as they fired in quick and strong shots at the opposing goal. The home team backed by the crowd had the momentum in their flowing in their favour.
This confidence along with the hard work saw them scoring and taking the lead in the 4th minute. The goal was scored by Dainus Zubrus through an 8 feet close range shot. After taking the lead, the home team didn't change the strategy and continued
to attack. This went against them as the Boston Bruins came up with counter-attacks. These attacks saw the Boston Bruins gain confidence and they scored in the 6th minute to level things. The goal was scored by Jordan Caron who fired a venomous
shot from 35 feet.
From then onwards, it was game that was totally dominated by the Boston Bruins as they scored goals regularly. The New Jersey Devils had the share of the chances but couldn't convert them into goals.
The Boston Bruins hard work and determination saw them scoring in the 11th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Michael Ryder that took the score to 2-1 in favour of the Boston Bruins as he hit the shot from 35 feet.
The Boston Bruins confidence grew and with the morale boosted, they bagged their 3rd goal when Shawn Thorton scored in the 17th minute. The goal was a splendid display of quick and pin point passing.
The Boston Bruins finished the miserable 20 minutes for the New Jersey Devils with another goal in the 19th minute to take the score to 4-1 when Milan Lucic scored from 14 feet. The period ended with the same score.
What was amazing about the period was the fact that both teams came up with 16 goal attempts but the Boston Bruins scored 4 goals compared to 1 of the New Jersey Devils.
3rd Period
The 3rd period was not productive in terms of goals and didn't provide the entertainment that was observed in the 2nd period. However, the New Jersey Devils maintained a good and tight defence but it was of no help as they lost the
match 4-1.
During the course of the last period, both teams were again tied in terms of goal attempts that were 8 but neither scored a goal.
"He scored a typical Jordan Caron goal -- all about overpowering while doing a good job standing in front of the net where he's really good at," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "Some guys have a knack for finding those loose pucks and he's
pretty good at it."
