2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Boston Bruins win 2-1 against Toronto Maple Leafs

Air Canada Centre, home of Toronto Maple Leafs was the venue for the 581st game of the season. The match was played between Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins. Both teams played the 38th game of the season with around 19,000
fans coming to witness the match. The match was much tighter than expected but Boston Bruins goal keeper Tukka Rask’s 36 saves in the match proved to be a vital element as the Boston Bruins won the match 2-1.
Toronto Maple Leafs made a decent start to the match but the Boston Bruins matched their pace. Regular counter attacks were seen which saw the puck going up and down the pitch. Toronto Maple Leafs had quite a few chances to score at the start but unfortunately,
the shot either went wide or were saved by the goal keeper.
Boston Bruins also responded to each attack made by Toronto Maple Leafs but they couldn’t during the 20 minutes of play. However, the home side successfully broke the deadlock with a goal from Mikhail Grabovski’s backhand shot in the 15th minute.
After taking the lead, both teams made a few more goal attempts but no goals were scored as the period ended with Toronto Maple Leafs leading 1-0.
During the course of the first 20 minutes of play, Toronto Maple Leafs made 11 goal attempts while Boston Bruins made 7 goal attempts.
Boston Bruins came up with a dominating performance in the second period as they dictated the game. Not only controlling possession but also not giving the opposition any space when they had possession. Toronto Maple Leafs with the determination and hard
work successfully scored through Nathan Horton from a flick shot in the 8th minute to level the scores.
Boston Bruins pressed on in search of another goal. They came across some very simple chances but the front line was disappointing. However, Boston silenced the home crowd as they scored in the 16th minute through Marc Savard’s powerful strike
to take the lead.
The period ended with Boston Bruins making a few more goal attempts but no goals. Boston led 2-1 heading into the break and made 18 goal attempts in the period while Toronto made 8 goal attempts.
Boston Bruins being in the lead preferred staying on the back foot rather than making attacks. Toronto Maple Leafs made a great start to the final period regularly firing shots on the opposing goal right from the start.
Their passing along with shooting was absolutely superb. Unfortunately, despite making 18 goal attempts in the period, Toronto Maple Leafs couldn’t score any goals. As a result, it was Boston who won the match 2-1.
