2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Boston Bruins win 3-0 against Phoenix Coyotes

The 24th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series took place at the O2 Arena, home of the Phoenix Coyotes. The match saw the Phoenix Coyotes host the Boston Bruins this Sunday. The match was predicted to be one of the tough matches in the
season. The match saw the 1st period being a very tight but later the Boston Bruins were able to gain the upper hand and in the end won 3-0.
1st Period
With the period opening on the slower side for both sides, the Boston Bruins were able to gain the upper hand. They displayed excellent abilities and skills in every department that enabled them to fire a few shots earlier on.
Though the Boston Bruins were strong on the offence, their defence was a little shaky at times. Realizing this, the Phoenix Coyotes exploited this to the fullest but they couldn’t score. Regular goal attempts were seen as the home team dominated play.
From then onwards, both teams formed a much tighter defence that proved to be non-porous. However, the Boston Bruins with the talent and experience that they had managed to make a few more shots but didn’t score. Some brilliant plays were seen in Boston
Bruins search for goal. The period ended goalless and both teams went into the break rather disappointed as they had many opportunities.
The Boston Bruins made 15 goal attempts and the Phoenix Coyotes made 8 but neither of the team scored.
2nd Period
When the 2nd period started, the home team was looking stronger out of the two teams. Coming up with regular shots and finding players in open positions. But they couldn’t score due to some superb work by the Boston Bruins backline.
As the period reached the 10 minute mark, the Boston Bruins started to make plays that carved way for players into open positions. With the spectacular plays that the Boston Bruins were regularly coming up with coupled with the strong shots on goal, they
score in the 13th minute. The goal was a beauty by Milan Lucic who scored from 46 feet slap off.
Taking the lead, the Boston Bruins were looking to double the lead and pressed further pushing the Phoenix Coyotes defence line further back. They were successful in doing so as they scored again in the 20th minute doubling the lead. The goal
came through lapse of concentration in the Coyotes defence as they lost possession at a crucial time. The Phoenix Coyotes paid for their mistake as Nathan Horton scored and the period ended with the score 2-0 in favour of the Boston Bruins.
When the period ended, the Boston Bruins managed to score twice out of their 12 goal attempts, whereas the Phoenix Coyotes made 8 goal attempts but didn’t score.
3rd Period
The home team cheered by 13,000 fans came out in the final period determined to score. They made good plays at the start but once again, like the previous 2 periods, they couldn’t score. Lacking quality with the finishing touch, the Phoenix Coyotes couldn’t
score in the final period as well.
The Boston Bruins on the other hand, assessed this period also before starting their attacks. This proved to be fruitful for the away side as they scored for the 3rd time in the match. The goal came in the 10th minute through Tyler
Seguin who hit an excellent backhand from 11 feet.
As the match was nearing the end, the Phoenix Coyotes looked strong on the offence, their finishing let them down. The attack either saw the shot go wide or straight at the keeper. The match ended with the Boston Bruins winning 3-0.
"I'm so happy," Horton said. "It's the best feeling to be a Boston Bruin."
"I saw the puck in the net and then I raised my arms. I wasn't sure it was in at first," said Seguin who was hauled down and slid into the end boards after getting off the shot.
"I didn't imagine my first NHL game in Europe, much less my first NHL goal," he added.
