2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Boston Bruins win 3-2 against the Buffalo Sabres after shootout

The first game of Tuesday saw the Boston Bruins play host to the Buffalo Sabres. This was the 401st game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series which was played at the TD Garden. Around 17,500 fans came to visit the match with the Buffalo Sabres
playing the 28th game of the season while the Boston Bruins played the 26th game of their campaign.
The away side was the stronger of the two teams at the start of the match. The passing and shooting were almost flawless. But the opposing goalkeeper, Carey Price was also up to the task as he made some brilliant saves.
The home team was backed by the home crowd even though they couldn’t match the pace of the Sabres. The home team with the back gained confidence and managed to come up with attacks in the second half of the period. They managed to score in the 14th
minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Milan Lucic from a brilliant wrap around shot.
Both teams finished the period on a high as the only thing that they did was attacking. The home team taking the lead was the more confident of the two which could be seen from the smoothness in their play as they went forward.
The Boston Bruins continued to attack as the 2nd period started. The offence and defence were both up to the mark.
This was the case for the first few minutes. The home team was caught on a counterattack in the 10th minute which almost saw the away side scoring. The Boston Bruins didn’t learn from this so they were punished by the Buffalo Sabres.
A through pass put Luke Adam in a scoring position ahead of the defensive line seeing him scoring. The goal was scored in the 13th minute through a powerful shot. The score was 1-1 and this is how the period ended. During the period both teams
made 7 goal attempts.
The 3rd period was evenly matched with the Buffalo Sabres displaying some excellent abilities and scoring in the 5th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Thomas Vanek from a powerful strike from long range. The Boston Bruins
managed to level the scores once again as they scored in the 14th minute. The goal was scored by Nathan Horton from a perfectly placed flick shot.
At the end of the regulation time the scores were levelled on 2-2. Hence, the match went into overtime. The final 20 minutes saw both team making 13 goal attempts.
In overtime, Mark Rechhi scored in the 3rd minute to win the match 3-2.
