2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Boston Bruins win 4-1 against the Washington Capitals
The 82nd game of the regular season in NHL saw the Boston Bruins play the Washington Capitals at the TD Centre, home of the Bruins. The game took place past Thursday in front of 18,000 fans that came to cheer their respective teams to victory.
The game saw the Washington Capitals play their 7th game and the Boston Bruins played their 5th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series thus far. The away team was expected to come up with a strong performance but this was not
the case as the Boston Bruins dominated play throughout to win the game 4-1.
1st Period
The away team started the 1st period on a high when they came up with splendid plays and ended the period with some brilliant shots. All the shots were potentially goal scoring but either the defence or the goal keeper came in the way and stopped
any expected scores.
The away team dominated the game for almost half of the first period but couldn’t convert any of the chance into goal and they went into the period yet to open their account. The Boston Bruins on the other hand, were showing some impressive play and after
the first ten minutes the momentum of the game shifted with the Boston Bruins on top.
The Boston Bruins were cheered by the home fans which gave them a lot of confidence and they managed to score in the 20th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Michael Ryder through 16 feet perfectly placed flick shot.
Both teams went into the break with the score 1-0 in favour of the home team as they managed to score once out of the 8-goal attempts. The Washington Capitals made 13-goal attempts but couldn’t find any goals.
2nd Period
The Boston Bruins started off the 2nd period from where they left off and attacked the opposing goal with even more force this time. They got past the opposing defence every now and then. All that was required was finishing for them to establish
a further stronger lead.
The Boston Bruins was successful in doing so in the 3rd minute when they scored to take the score to 2-0. The goal was scored by Jordan Caron from 32 feet away from goal. After the goal was scored, the Washington Capitals adopted a more attacking
mentality that saw them attacking the opposing goal frequently.
However, it was the Boston Bruins who scored in the 13th minute to establish the 3 goals lead. The goal was scored by Nathan Horton from 55 feet when he got possession and shot the puck during a fast break. After this goal, the Washington Capitals
carried on with confident attacks they were making before the Boston Bruins scored but they couldn’t find the net.
During the course of the period, the Washington Capitals made 13-goal attempts but couldn’t score any goal. The Boston Bruins on the other hand scored 2 goals during the period out of the 18-goal attempts they made as the period ended with the score 3-0
in favour of the home team.
3rd Period
In the last period, the Washington Capitals started off the proceedings in a very attacking manner, threatening the opposing goal.
They were successful in scoring a goal which was no more than consolation in the 10 minute to cut the 3 goals lead. The goal was scored by Jason Chimera through 40 feet shot. From then onwards, it was all about the Boston Bruins who put a splendid performance
both in the offence and the defence.
They managed to restore the 3-goal lead when they scored in the 20th minute to seal the match. The goal was scored by Captain Zdeno Chara from 48 feet.
The period and match ended with the score 4-1 in favour of the Boston Bruins with the Boston Bruins goalkeeper Tim Thomas being named the 1st star selection of the match. At the end he said, "I'm hoping this isn't just a hot streak; this is me
now," said Thomas, who had offseason surgery on the labrum in his left hip. "At times last year I felt like I was a one-legged goalie."
"I understand that me and Tuukka are a tandem," Thomas said. "There's room enough for both of us to play. I'm not putting myself in the coach's shoes; I'm just playing as well as I can when I'm told to play."
