2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– Buffalo Sabres win 3-1 against Toronto Maple Leafs
The 329th game of 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Buffalo Sabres play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The match was played at the HSBC Arena on Friday in front of 18,000 fans. This was the 21st game of the season for the Toronto Maple
Leafs while the Buffalo Sabres played the 24th game of their campaign so far.
The start of the match saw Buffalo Sabres making a few goal attempts. They displayed some excellent passing and play making abilities but unfortunately couldn’t score. The home team was cheered on as they went on the attack each time.
The Toronto Maple Leafs also got into the game with a few goal attempts but the home crowd went wild when the home team scored in the 7th minute to take the lead. The goal was a well worked goal, which was scored by Jordan Leopold through a powerful
strike.
The Buffalo Sabres continued to attack and with the strong attack they came up with in the match, scored once again to double their lead. The goal was scored in the 8th minute through a brilliant flick shot by Thomas Vanek. The Buffalo Sabres
continue to put pressure on the away side but they didn’t score any more goals.
The period ended with the Buffalo Sabres leading 2-0. During the course of the period, the Buffalo Sabres made 16 goal attempts while the Toronto Maple Leafs made 5 goal attempts.
The 2nd period started for the Sabres similar to the first one as they dominated the play. Not only did the Sabres work their way past the defence through spectacular passing but also came up with strong shooting.
The Toronto Maple Leafs also made shots and came up with some brilliant pieces of play. Despite strong performances neither of the teams were able to score as the period ended with the Buffalo Sabres still leading 2-0.
The 2nd period of the match saw the Toronto Maple Leafs making 15 goal attempts while the Buffalo Sabres made 5 goal attempts.
The final period was pretty much even if we talk about goals scored but the Toronto Maple Leafs were the better of the two teams in terms of performance in the period. The Toronto Maple Leafs successfully got past the opposing defence but failed to score.
However, despite all this it was the Buffalo Sabres, who scored the first goal of the period. The goal was scored by Patrick Kaleta through a spectacular backhand shot.
The Toronto Maple Leafs responded with some decent shots and were able to score in the 17th minute. The goal was scored by Phil Kessel through a flick shot but was merely just a consolation goal.
In the final 20 minutes of play the Toronto Maple Leafs made 16 goal attempts while the Buffalo Sabres made 7 goal attempts.
